Can you believe the rep from Jea? She had the nerve to get on Fox 30 and tell people that because of the few days of cold our bills will be double or triple nest month?

At the end of her interview she says " Be sure to budget now so there won't be a interuption in your service"

I do understand that JEA is a business but I am really sensing some wrong doing here.

Are they serious? I think they are so glad the cold weather came. Just an excuse to get more money. Greedy mofo's.

Use your heater responsibly and use a new, programmable thermostat and your bill will be more reasonable. It doesn't need ti be set more than 74 degrees when you are home, and no more than 68 or so when u are asleep.

I think she overstated it.

We have kept our thermostat at 68 the entire time and don't use any space heaters. It's not so much for me that I am upset it's for our vulnerable population. What about the disabled and seniors on fixed incomes? They must be kept warm! What about the ones living in older homes that are drafty and need the extra heat?

This is just sickening. We have had cold before and I have never heard them telling citizens to EXPECT a double to triple bill!

So how is that gas or propane generator working for you ScrewJax? I guess you have gotten off your pissing and moaning arse long enough to upgrade you house so you can tell JEA to screw off.

Scooter, I can not believe you used the Bad and Evil word “responsibly”, shame on you. So far this month our house is using approximately 12% more electricity than last month.
One of the best “INVESTMENTS” I have made was to buy a programmable thermostat.

At 5:30 the thermostat sets to 70 degrees, then at 7:15 it goes to 60 do not want frozen kitty cats. In the evening around 4:15 back up to 68 degrees then 70 at around 7:00. Then from 11:00 until 5:30 is set to 66 for sleeping.

BTW, no has to listen to or believe JEA, just get off your Lazy, piss and moaning Arses and go check your JEA meter once a day to track your usage and make changes in your life style or just do as ScrewJax and piss and moan about everything.

The kitties have their own fur coats--they just pile up on each other and are fine. It's the pipes I have to worry about. My family is proof you can weather FL winter without central heat. We used 4 space heaters turned on only when we were in the room (2 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 family room). Yes we wore sweaters and jackets and gloves in the house, and yes we had lots of comforters and afghans we huddled under to watch TV. BUT, when I get my electric bill, it will only be about $20 more than usual. I have a programable thermostat and when we did use it, it actually ran more often than when I just turned heat down manually at night and then way down during the day when nobody was home. It's not fun, but it is doable and I think we all are going to have to DO more instead of whining about the rising costs. Obama promised to bankrupt the power companies that use coal and that means higher electric for the vast majority of the US (to say nothing of the lost jobs from decreased domestic use of coal--the Chicoms are more than happy to buy our coal for their electric). The main reason JEA has to raise rates is to deter demand. We are seriously unprepared to supply increased demands in FL.

I agree that energy bills are often exorbitant.

I have a programmable thermostat. I also close the doors and turn the lights off in rooms that aren't being used, and I'm pretty diligent about that. I even have a timer on my hot water heater, so it isn't using energy heating water all hours of the day and night. I paid to have extra insulation blown in my attic, and I have double insulated energy efficient windows. Nonetheless, my electric bill is still what I consider pretty high. All of the above brings it down somewhat, but it is still moderately high throughout the year and super high in the winter months and the dog days of summer.

I just feel I'm too old (not that I'm "old," just to clarify :) to lye in a cold room, or bundle up and be miserable inside my own home, only to have a moderatly high electric bill instead of a super high electric bill. I work hard, live below my means already and I'm not willing to shower or eat in a cold room so I keep it around 72. We're not talking about the difference in getting a Lexus versus a Toyota. We're talking about the basics (heating and cooling your house). I'm not wasteful and have taken steps to minimize consumption (which is what the electric companies advise us to do), but I'm peeved that hard working middle class people (as I've read here) are placed in a situation where they feel they can't or shouldn't adequately heat or cool their homes because of the ever increasing energy rates.

logic never gets outside of his personal little world and doesn't give a chit what happens to anyone outside of self-centered little pea brain.

unemployment is over 10% and has been for quite sometime. unemployment in florida doesn't pay enough for food, rent and heat.
but, azzholes like logic have no concern about anyone else, until it gets top him.

plain and simple, logic is the cancer that is destroying america.

You are so wrong SJ, It would seam to me that I have taken those actions needed to get the actions of JEA from having as large an affect on me. What have you done,???. Of pissing and moaning on topix counts as nothing. Calling me names counts as nothing.

Doing nothing but pissing and moaning equals hiding in your little corner and accepting being raped and hoping your government will do something to help you.

Yes the government may come after me one day and I know you will be lock-n-step behind them.

I agree with Julianna. Im being careful about keeping off stuff not in use and turning off heat before I leave for the day. JEA does suk and of course they are going to justify the bills going up. If you think about it, we are still paying the rate hike for when gas was at $4 a gallon. Gas has went down and does anyone see them making an adjustment for the months they have been charging us that rate? Or going down for that matter to reflect the current rate of gas? They are the only game in town and therefore will continue to stick it to us until the citizens demand a new company.

Now as for not having concerns about anyone else, then you are clueless or just do not agree with me, one in the same. I disagree 100% that I am the cancer that is destroying America, people who believe in individual freedom and responsibility are the cure! It is those who are more than happy to but all there hopes and dreams in the hands of the government and the 8itch about what they get. Those are the cancers that are eating away at the heart of this country.

Well said, Logic! Personal responsibility is, well, as it states...personal responsibility. That is the problem with AmeriCa. Everyone thinks boo hoo..bail me out and send me a stimulus check. That is why America is drowning faster than you can blink an eye.

Absolutely agree! We also have a programmable thermostat and took extra insulating measures when we built our home 8 yrs ago. There is no freakin' way I'm going to freeze my butt off inside my home to save a few bucks. We work to enjoy the little luxuries like central heating and air. Granted, there are people who may not have that luxury and I feel for them, or those who choose extreme measures to save money. But, I will not be in Eskimo garb to watch TV in my own home...unless I have no power then the parka comes on. I'd rather cut corners elsewhere before choosing to weather the cold indoors.

Get someone who knows how to rig the meter, pay them 20$ a month and get used to paying 75$ a month for two people, instead of 110-156$ a month.

Or simply splice into your neighbors outlet every couple of days or during days when you'll only be around for a few hours. This should also show at least a 10% decrease in your JEA bill.

Well said Juliana! We purchase what we think will conserve energy, and make sacrifices but it does no good with JEA.

I also agree that I work way too hard to live in a cold home. We keep the thermostat at 68 and wear long sleeve pj's around the house. I'm not going any lower.
