I am sure the surrounding counties appreciate getting the tax revenue from Sunday sales. Way to go. You have now extended the drive for those who do want to purchase on Sunday and some that may have waited to get home to pop the cork may now do so while in route. By the time they get home they should really enhance the safety of your county roads.
You cannot legislate morality nor should you try.
absolutely, remember when duval did this because of the tube sock people, and ST JOHNS GOT ALL THE BEER BUSINESS ON SUNDAY, BUNCHES OF IT,
maybee they can grow corn to offset some of the burden,

when the vendors decided to come to our community, they should have checked the laws. so, if residents want beer on Sunday, we will send them to your county, so they can buy it there. i am not a religious freak, i don't even go to church. doesn't mean that i don't beleive. it is just to bad that you have a lot to say about our county, and nothing about yours. sorry you don't have the right to choose...we do.

1) Where, exactly, in the bible are you admonished to prevent OTHER people from drinking alcohol?

And don't claim this is based on "Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy" because if you're using that one, you'd better outlaw buying groceries, cooking, cleaning, driving, having sex with your lawfully wedded better half and pretty much every other activity within the bounds of human experience as well.

2) While I support your decision to abstain (or at least your decision to abstain from buying alcohol on Sunday within your city limits), I no more support your right to legislate morally based restrictions than I would support your right to pass a law declaring that all people over 5 feet tall must remain indoors on Wednesdays. It doesn't matter if the people of the town are mostly nice church-going folk any more than it matters if the people of the town are mostly dwarves. Some things are just not acceptable infringements on the liberties of others.

3) And Opps,

You may want to re-read some of your history books. Native Americans didn't drink alcohol until the Europeans brought it over here.

The Colonies may have been "built on religion belief [sic]" but this Nation was founded on a fundamental principal of separation of church and state. Eventually, we may actually figure out that one of the the most obvious applications of that intent would be to do away with legislation of moral belief (banning sales of certain items on Sundays, for example).

surely it does not matter what some place wishes to do with its by laws, under no circumstances would that have any effect on my or mine [see I make dang sure I dont run out lol lol] but seriously have any of you tried to buy booze in Georgia ANYPLACE on a sunday, now that did take me aback as I had only heard of it in some podunk place in Wales before and all they did was open up a pub the other side of the road out of the limits and did a roaring trade..........and basically so long as the area is not saying I can NOT have a drink on a sunday or any other day I wish, then let them be.

I hope this doesn't seem to "libreal" for you:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

That's the first amendment, just in case you didn't know, and wasn't laid out by Judicial precedent. It was ratified along with the rest of the Bill of Rights in 1791. The promise of a Bill of Rights guaranteeing (among other issues) the separation of the church from the government was the deciding factor in the ratification of the Constitution itself in 1788.

Now that Iíve helped correct your misconceptions of the origins of the separation of church and state in the United States, do you care to bring your formidable knowledge base and unflappable analytical mind to bear on my original question? To paraphrase for clarification:

ďWhere in the bible does it admonish Christians to prevent other people from consuming alcohol or to restrict trade in alcohol on any particular day of the week?Ē

Because frankly, if itís not a biblically documented directive, arenít you guys just enforcing your personal preferences for social behavior behind a false pretense of Christian admonition?

I think everyone needs to read up on the "patriot act". It pretty much does away with the constitution and bill of rights. http://www.aclu.org/safefree/resources/17343r...
