So, our village is broke, but the board can suggest a pay raise and health insurance for the board members? How much is this going to cost us?

Nice for the village to wake us all up at 5am this morning. WTF was that for? The phone was busy at the police station, my guess is alot of folks got up early.

So, the current Village Board wants health insurance that will cost taxpayers about $64,000 a year. Where are all you people who think these people care about us? I want to hear your excuses.

Heard that the president will be getting a 7500 dollar increase and him and trustees will have medical insurance..........nice that you can vote yourself a 40% raise when people are lucky to have a job with a one percent raise. What the heck are they doing? Does no one hear or see this? He took the job at the amount paid and now raises his pay? and all this happens because we have no newspaper coverage and the televised meetings somehow no longer get televised. and 'they' thought we were mushrooms before!!!! Looks like we really are mushrooms, cover us with s___ and keep us in the dark, works for all politicians.

You hit it on the head - since the Village is in a "news vacuum" nobody knows anything unless you can get to the meetings. Once again, our "open and transparent" Village officials. As I said before, the only update to the Village website was to put Getty's face on it. Another great use of taxpayer's money.

Question: Do they still have a raffle at the "Senior Lunch" (or whatever it is called? If, so, how many times a year does this happen?

It's called take care of yourself and who cares about the rest. If he gets $7500 more for being liquor commish instead of the current couple hundred a hearing, and there were only two hearings last year, man, that's a great rate of pay. As far as the health benefits, they should all be covered by their places of employment, I mean their real jobs not the trustee positions which are part time at best. I thought the village was in debt, where's this money coming from and why?

--- increases don't go into place until 2013.
It was televised on Channel 6 at the last meeting.

That is the perfect example of greed. How dare this board implement these raises with benefits. Your hurting the people that put you in office. And we as plain old citizens are not afforded the luxury of benefits like that with any part time job. That is why most employers wont hire full-time workers so they can deny coverage. It is time for another turn over. The citizens of Lyons need to come together and show each and every board member the door. And tell them don't let it hit ya in the ass on your way out.

We have to wait for 2013 to see if the two trustees
accept the pay increase or give it back to the Village.

If they do not agree to the increase, then they should sign a pledge to donate their increase back to the Village.

Both trustees have stated to many a person in town, that they will not be seeking re-election.

Time will tell !!!!

do you happen to know if former board members (trustees) receive
IMRF benefits..(retirement) and if so, did the Village kick in
any of our tax dollars towards it?

Isn't that election year? Let's all remember the increases when we go to the polls.

Let's hope we get someone to run against them! In the political climate now, God only knows who will give it a run.

Sad day if they don't run. They at least voted NO on the increase and health benefits. What lame brain came up with the idea anyway? Stupid! Get a full time job that includes benefits if you want them, don't stick the taxpayers who are drowning already.

Wouldn't that be typical! Wonder how long it will take for a full blown investigation instead of all the small ones going on?

IMRF depends on working a minimum number of hours/year. For an elected official to qualify for an IMRF pension the Village has to certify that the position requires the official to work at least 600 hrs/yr (About 11.5 hrs/week) in their elected position. Let's see - the Village Board meets 2X/month - each meeting takes (being generous) 4 hours, so that makes 96 hours a year; where is the other 500+ hours coming from? I'm sure every elected official spends 42 hrs/month preparing for the Village Board meetings...

Sorry, but there is a loophole...the 600 hrs/year is what your employer (the Village) EXPECTS a person in that position to work; but they don't actually have to work that many. So the Village only has to lie a little and say that the board members are "expected" to work 600 hours per year.

As for Ken, sorry "If an IMRF member is convicted of a felony in connection with his or her IMRF employment, the member is not eligible for an IMRF pension."
