Are radar detectors illegal in ky? I heard they werent but wanted to ask. And does Murray or Benton police and also state troopers use vg2 or spectre detectors to detect radar detectors? And why would they want the radar detector detectors if they're legal?

They are legal in KY, unless you are a commercial vehicle.

I thought my valentine 1 was the bomb until i got my Beltronics. It alerts at least 2 miles ahead and is rarely wrong.

A friend of mine had a cobra and the spectre I/III went off on it which puzzled me as to why they have the rdds if they're legal?

Don't speed, no need for one.

I also have a Cobra and the city cops love to use their POP and Spectre. Not sure why our tax dollars are being used for detector detectors unless it's built-in to the whole system. It's the POP you have to worry about. Oh and I think Virginia and DC are the only places where it's illegal to own one. Hell, you can't even have a windshield mounted GPS in Virginia, at least according to a cop friend that told me.

And Brenda, I take it you do EXACTLY 55 mph on 641 or EXACTLY 70 mph on I-24? Theoretically, the cops can pull you over if you're doing 1-2 mph over the limit, but highly doubtful. Keep it around 5 mph over the limit and you'll be okay. Me? I do around 62 mph on 641 north. I don't think 7 mph over is that big of a deal. Breaking the law? Sure. Am I being a menace to those around me doing 62 in a 55? Why hell no! Their is a stigma associated with people that own radar detectors. People tend to think that we will drive 30+ mph over the speed limit because we think we are invincible because of a tiny electronic device. That couldn't be more wrong. First off, if you're doing 100 mph in a 70 mph zone, detector or not, you won't have time to slow down when your detector goes off. You'd be going way too fast and therefore ticketed, if not arrested. Now if you want to keep it reasonable and travel 5-10 mph over the speed limit, the detector will probably keep you from getting ticketed from a cop that has a quota to fill and therefore will pull you over, even if you're doing 7 mph over. BTW, my detector alerted me to a train approaching at an upcoming crossing from about two miles away last week when I was in TN. It's a good device to own, but not a license to be reckless.

I got the $99 from Walmart cobra. Does great! Saved me several tickets, highly recommend. Don't speed through Cadiz, they turn their radars on and off. It will detect about 2 miles out.

FYI as a law enforcement officer we dont have quotas to fill. My agency dont tell to do more or do less traffic stops. If i want to make a stop i do. Then if i feel the need to issue a ticket then i write it

Get an Escort Redline, it gives great warning about 2 miles. I have had it 3 years now and have not had a ticket after 130k miles of travel. Most of the agencies around here use K or KA band.

It is not cheap, around $500.

I want to be able to buy a device that sets off the radar detectors, so unsafe road hogs will slow down. it would be awesome if numerous people had those, the nascar wanna-bes would have to slow down. Oh, by the way, not onlya re you taking a risk with your life and the lives of otehrs, but you are wasting fuel poop-for-brains. The difference between averaging 60 or averaging 70 is 20% fuel consumption. So you contribute to higher gas prices...schlep. maybe you can use your detector and have a nice big crash, walk away unhurt and realize your stupidity, otherwise a bad crash where you get killed will happen eventually.

If all laws were enforced there would be no need to speed. Laws like distracted driving (phones), people is the left lane not passing anyone, etc. So many are part of the "me" generation meaning the rest of us have to suffer through it. Cars grouped together is not a safe thing either. Look as Nascar (since you brought it up) tracks that tend to group the cars are where the largest wrecks take place.

Hell, why don't we just get out and push the cars. That would really save on fuel. By the way, you continue to travel 60 mph on the interstate. YOU would be the problem. Not the guy doing 75 mph. Read and learn: http://www.motorists.org/speed-limits/faq
