I need help. I live in a west ky rural telephone service area. I am wanting to get rid of my home land line phone and keep only my internet service. Anyone know about how to do this or with what company? I would like to also get rid of my Dish Network services. How can I go about getting TV services without satellite or cable?

Old time antenna. I think you got to get a converter box.

Are you able to get the fiber optic service with WKRT? In theory, you should be able to run phone, tv & internet off that 1 service.

Phone : VOIP service such as Vonage, etc.
TV: Use an antenna for local stations & stream Netflix, Hulu, etc. for everything else.

I hope they don't make you bundle needless services with the fiber optic, but WKRT has been known to do that very thing.

I live in the county and I also have West Ky Internet with the fiberoptic lines. That is the only option where I live and it sucks. Slow as hell. I have complained a million times and all they say is "We'll put in a work order or we're working on it". It has not improved at all. You have to have a phone line to connect to the router. I am paying 74 dollars a month for the worst internet I have ever had. We also changed our TV from Dish to West Ky; big mistake. Less channel, more money. I'm very disgusted with them!

IhateWKRT, could you go to speedtest.net , run a test and post the results here? I'm curious what the numbers are. Thanks

I have WKRT and Download Speed is .16 and Upload Speed is .10 mbps. It does suck. I wish I could get rid of them...I don't even want their fiber optic.

Actually, I live less than a mile outside the city limits. Houses are very close to me on both sides.

There is Internet you can get through dish and direct tv. Also some places have independent line of sight internet.

I converted from WK&T's DSL to their fiber and the difference is like night and day. I'm getting 15 mbps down and 2 mbps up for around $50/month.

I live five miles out of town and AT&T just started their u-verse service. I got their Internet installed Monday and its great !!$29.99 a month, for the Internet. I pay $39.99 a month but I got home telephone as well. Considering we weren't able to get west ky, and have been using Verizon wireless Internet the last three years, it's a blessing !!! I'd highly recommend it. It just became available in the last two weeks. I inquired about their u-verse television but was told that was years away for this area. So, stuck with dish for awhile longer.

We have WKTV also. We were paying 160.00 a month for phone, cable and internet. service sucks. It goes out at least twice a week. It takes 35 minutes to reboot. Kicks us off the computer daily. They did run a special about a month ago. We got in on that. Bill is now 70.bucks for 12 months.I keep a cell phone that has a Chicago number that works great. During that big ice storm a few years ago, that cell phone was the only phone for 2 weeks. All the neighbors came by to call their families. I can't wait for AT&T or Comcast or somebody to get in here.Dish is even worse. Every time the wind blows...well you know what happens.

I live in the county and wkrt ran fiber optics out here last september. told me it would be hooked up in a month or so. So I called last week, and they finally got back to me. My land line is my life line, I have no cell. Well wkrt told me that it will be a long long time before i have fiber optics..even tho all it needs is connecting....they can hook up my fiber optics now if i sign a contract with them for 2 years for their internet. This is so messed up, my phone line gets knocked down a minimum of 4x a year as the line is to low for farm equipment. I am handicapped and what if I had an emergency and my line is down....this is so monopolizing of wkrt. I am on dial up...and for the last 2 weeks it will barely go....it is always slow but now it is ridiculous....10 minutes to open a page.......and wkrt informed me they do not really care about my problem as they really aren't doing much maintenance on the old lines....so unless i sign up for their internet i'm screwed.....thanks wkrt...it use to be a decent company and supposedly it is owned by the users...we use to get a check once a year...that stopped over 15 years ago when they built their substations...and then ran the fiber out here.....idk....maybe there is another option for internet?....and maybe i just need to get a cell and then wkrt can stick their fiber.........

Whats this "landline" device you speak of?

P.S.
Comcast is HoRRible, good internet for a cost, bad overpriced cable. Where I comed from Comcast used to be only option, they run ya into the ground. UVerse eventually set up shop, was 10 times better.

A land line is my phone line...it is not mobile....my home phone line....and uverse would be nice and affordable...but wkrt is not going to hook up fiber....as they want a contract first...and this way they have you for 2 years....and they may be able to block uverse from their fiber optics line...idk...guess won't know for a very long time...and since I complained that my internet was very slow and noise on the line...it has gotten worse....i have even considered getting their high dollar internet...but as this is my life line...and I am on a fixed income...(this winters heating bills have kept me barely making it....if not for deer in the freezer there would be days i didn't eat....as long as i have coffee...lol.)...i don't want internet on the same bill as my phone line..as what if i got behind.....i shouldn't but if emergency bill...(like need well pump..etc...major car repair).... i would.....then i would lose my phone ...i wouldn't care if they turned me to collections and i would pay them when i can....but i would lose my phone.......that is why i need separate bills...just in case....but they will not do this...nope...there ya go imagine that.......
