What's the deal with Dr. Christopher getting fired? She's been here forever and is a great doctor. MCCH gets a worse reputation every day.

Blame the Board of Trustees. They let these people run in and out of administrative positions and won't stand up for local employees who have contributed to hospital for years. Where is their loyality to people that have worked and contributed for a long time.

Healthcare is no longer healthcare. It is a business. If an employee is bringing in less money than they are making, it's see you later. That's all there is to it.

my understanding is not that she was fired, rather that she chose to retire. With the new healthcare regs, doctors - especially family docs - all have to see more patients, do more paperwork, put up with more grief from the government pinheads, and in exchange get paid less for the time and effort. It's not the hospital's choice. I heard that she loves being a doctor, but like many fine experienced doctors it's just not worth the aggravation anymore. Welcome to Obamacare, more patients, less doctors...

She's not retiring, Penner refused to renew her contract. She will be moving her practice and taking her patients with her.

I hope you are right she is one of the few great doctors in Murray. I have been going to her for years.

Really? She had patients, I'm surprised.

SHE couldn't diagnose you with throat cancer. You would have to have a biopsy done by a surgeon for that. Dr C is a GREAT physician. She will find somewhere to practice. She cares way too much for her patients to just leave them high and dry.

Dr. Christopher is a great physician, and it's a shame that Murray-Calloway County Hospital values quantity of patients seen rather than quality of medicine practiced.

I'll choose quality -- and so will many other community hospitals. An article in today's New York Times discusses the move by community hospitals to value the quality of medicine practiced over the number of patients seen. Guess MCCH is once again behind the times.
