Judged: 2 Move over, Lassie: Real-life dog to the rescue for homeless man Forget Lassie. A homeless man outside Olympia, Wash., is thanking his dog, Buddy, for heroics that may well have saved his life. On Wednesday afternoon, the man – whose identity is not being released by police – tucked a note into his dog’s harness with a hastily written plea for help. Since early that morning he had been unable to move, lying on the floor of the makeshift home he had constructed in the woods near Tumwater. “This was his last-ditch effort. He thought he was going to die,” said Detective Jen Kolb of the Tumwater Police Department. Luckily, a woman who frequently walked her dog through the woods recognized Buddy and noticed the note. The word “HELP” was scribbled in large font, with the plea:“Send help. No joke. Cannot walk.” The woman quickly dialed 911, but what was missing from the SOS was the man’s name or any indication of where he was. But on the other side of the scrap paper were directions to the Washington state Department of Social and Health Services, which frequently works with the area’s homeless. Police scoured the woods, known to have a large homeless population, looking for make-shift shelters where the injured man may have been. After a short search, the man was found and transported to a hospital in Olympia where he was treated and released. “This was his best friend, and the one he relied on when he needed someone the most,” said Kolb.“It’s one of those heartwarming stories that kind of remind you of Lassie." The man is recovering with friends, while Buddy has been taken in by animal services. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/02/08/16... |

Judged: 2 1 Ah, coffee and memories of a childhood Grade School poem nudged on by your query....(Incidentally, it was a faded shade of green) I never saw a Purple Cow, I never hope to see one. But I can tell you anyhow, I'd rather see than be one.(first penned in 1895). So can anyone else remember the Grade School tabloid known as "The Weekly Reader"? I can't remember anything we read other than the back bage always had a cartoon about an elephant and a monkey. I believe it was "Dumbo and Peanuts". And we trudged through the snow about 3/4 mile from here at the Homestead to the end of the road (up hill both ways, of course LOL) and stood out in the cold waiting on the school bus for that vast wealth of knowledge? |

Judged: 1 1 1 An old man was walking along the beach, when he came upon a part of the sand where thousands of starfish had washed ashore. A little further down the beach he saw a young woman, who was picking up the starfish one at a time and tossing them back into the ocean. "Oh you silly girl," he exclaimed. "You can't possibly save all of these starfish. There's too many." The woman smiled and said, "I know. But I can save this one, " and she tossed another into the ocean, "and this one", toss, "and this one..." |

Good mornin Friends. I read the posts from People wishing me well in some of the situations I am currently in.. I would like to say Thank You.
I have freed myself of one of them. Another seems intent on keeping me tore up for a while. "She" has been quite a mess in my life. It was my bad decision to get involved. I came to my senses a few monthes ago and tried to end the situation. It's a difficult thing to do. I still have my weaknesses. She knows how to play on them. A lonesome 51 y/o man whose mind and body still work like they did when he was in his 20's can become quite painfully entangled with a 30 y/o woman. My intent has always been to help her out of the totally messed up life she leads. I was convinced that's what she wanted.. Now it's clear she intends to continue down the same old path. While I am going the opposite direction, she takes a little piece of my heart with her. |

Judged: 2 2 2 Let the bad times stay in the shadows until they eventually fade away. That may or may not work for everyone, but it has been my source of comfort. Have a Good Day everyone. I think if I dress warmly, I should be able to get outside to enjoy today's blessings. I don't do so well indoors as outdoors. |

Judged: 1 1 1 'Earth will have 15 minutes to protect electronics' Scientists say there will be short notice of destructive plasma cloud from solar superstorm. WASHINGTON – Scientists around the globe are joining those in the United States in becoming alarmed at the possibility of a plasma cloud from a solar superstorm that could wipe out vast electronics networks, because they say Earth would have only a notice of about 15 minutes. U.S. space scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrator and the National Aeronautic Space Administration’s Goddard Space Flight Center have been expressing concern over what is fast becoming a “solar storm maximum.” Unless the nation is adequately protected, the sheer impact alone from such anticipated solar storms will result in the loss of critical U.S. electrical infrastructures that could send the country back into an early 19th century agrarian society. Back then, such an event would have had no effect, since there was no electricity and most people had farms and grew their own food. Experts have warned that such a major solar storm occurrence actually could be worse than back in the 19th century due to the considerable increase in population and the total reliance by society on electricity and technology for life-sustaining needs. Besides all that, most people today don’t grow their own food. Read more at http://www.wnd.com/2013/02/earth-will-have-15... |

Judged: 2 2 1 THIS IS VERY INTERESTING THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE IT. Good thing to know! Mayo Clinic How many folks do you know who say they don't want to drink anything before going to bed because they'll have to get up during the night!! Heart Attack and Water - I never knew all of this ! Interesting....... Something else I didn't know ... I asked my Doctor why people need to urinate so much at night time. Answer from my Cardiac Doctor - Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs and etc) seeks level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. This then ties in with the last statement! I knew you need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your body, but this was news to me. Correct time to drink water... Very Important. From A Cardiac Specialist! Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body: 2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion 1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure 1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack I can also add to this... My Physician told me that water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse. |

Judged: 1 1 Subject: Mayo Clinic on Aspirin - PASS IT ON Mayo Clinic Aspirin Dr. Virend Somers, is a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. and noon. Having one during the night, when the heart should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame. 1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night. The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system. 2. FYI, Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest for years,(when it gets old, it smells like vinegar). Please read on. Something that we can do to help ourselves - nice to know. Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets. Why keep Aspirin by your bedside? It's about Heart Attacks - There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating; however, these symptoms may also occur less frequently. Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack. The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep. If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water. Afterwards:- Call 911.- Phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by. - Say "heart attack!" - Say that you have taken 2 Aspirins.- Take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and ....DO NOT LIE DOWN! A Cardiologist has stated that if each person after receiving this e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life could be saved! I have already shared this information. What about you? Do forward this message. It may save lives! "Life is a one time gift" Get out and enjoy it while you have it.:) |
