Albemarle Supervisors to Hold Final Hearing on School Budget
#1 Mar 27, 2013
The Supervisors should know that we support the school system unconditionally. It is the reason why I live in Albemarle County.

What happened to last year's surplus?

Cut teacher pay! They are utterly worthless.

The "hostage taking" has got to stop. Every year, if the school system doesn't get every penny it asks for, it means dire straits for the schools -- teacher layoffs and program cuts.
Potentially nine positions to lose in the high schools and middle schools!! Egads!! That's about one teacher per school. Quality education in Albemarle County will be in peril.
Mrs. Thorpe from the tea party is right. We cannot continually increase school funding every year unless a more serious effort is made to make cuts to balance the priorities. We all have to prioritize and do with less in these continuing bad ecconomic times.
Don't fall for the line that the .04 tax rate increase will only affect a small number of families. The BOS used that reasoning last year. Property revenues are down and people have taken a serious financial hit...but once they begin to reoover when values rebound, they'll get socked by the oh-so-harmless increase.
It's time for some accountability from the school system. The gravy train much stop here. Leave the tax rate where it is and force them to get creative.

Same song and dance every year. Always short of cash, lay-offs on the way, children having to walk to school in the snow, no money to feed the hamsters in the 1st grade classrooms...oh the drama! Then they get the money, find extra money, and have a surplus....hmmmm, what's up with that.
These 'crying wolf' moments have to stop. Times are still tough for a lot of people in the county, and talk of tax increases don't make anyone feel better. Even if it is for the 'chillwren'.

"$600,000 in cuts"? I.e.:$600,000 in PROPOSED INCREASES that they probably won't get now. "Liberal-speak": gotta love it!

IF the budget for the schools is in so much trouble, why did they buy every kid at walton a computer? And now they want to do it for burley! Is that really necessary? Would they rather cut teachers and have all kids being taught by a computer?

Oh, and now they want to build a $100 million dollar HS. Where's that money coming from?
