I am disappointed with the way VDOT has handled the project on I-64. I live in Staunton and commute to Charlottesville over Afton Mountain. We have been told repeatedly to use 250 as an alternate route and yet there are construction crews stationed at the Ivy exit and along Delphi Road in Waynesboro which are causing traffic tie-ups and lengthy delays. Who planned this fiasco? And why didn't someone at least ask the police or sherriff's dept. to direct traffic at these intersections until the project is finished? Instead, motorists have been forced to rely on the regular rhythms of stoplights and/or the abritrary decisions of road workers holding stop signs. Also, the crew's work schedule changes from day to day--sometimes they start at 8 a.m.; other times they begin at 6:30. Which is it?

Don't forget, the original schedule was for 4 days, weeks ago! These guys are out there doing their jobs, who trained the planners? Weather delays are understandable, but this has become ridiculous. Will next week be the final work or will this drag on longer? And, what's wrong with working on Friday, Saturday and Sunday? The regular commuters can be inconvenienced 4 days a week, but the weekend traveler cannot be inconvenienced?

This is another instance of poor planning by State of Virginia employees. They can;t get their heads out of the A.. Hole to see the light.

VDOT's Communications Manager is Lou Hatter. Let him know how you feel about the project on 64. [email protected]

Just to echo what some others are saying, my husband has to commute into Waynesboro each day, and he also has been wondering why there are no police directing the traffic pile-ups that occur on 250 as everyone is forced to go through Waynesboro. This whole thing seems so poorly planned and executed, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight!

I don't understand why they close it at the 94 MM. Why not let everyone go up Afton and exit at the 99 MM then get back on at the 107 MM? Would certainly free things up in Waynesboro.

Doesn't Ken Slack work for VDOT now :)

I think Slack planned this project.
