Let's just clear some things up. My son is a student at FMS it was his idea to go there. People don't send their boys there to get them out of the way. He is there on a scholarship, which covers most but not all of the 28,000 year tuition. So, why do parents send their boys there? To teach them honor, responsibility, and leadership. This school has done what I, or public school could never do. He went from a D, F student to an A, B student. He carries himself like a young man now, not a boy. The doors that will open to the graduates of this school are endless. As for the overdose, it happened during parent's weekend. The boys OD on Benedryl some of the boys thought it would be an easy way to get high and avoid drug testing. They just did something stupid, no different than kids in public schools, they just have less access to the drugs public school kids do. This is a fantastic school.
Proud to be a Fishburne mom.

All I hear is private schools are better than public schools? Sounds like they have some of the same problems. Are they really that different?

I am sickened by the comments here, as an alum, i know what this school does and how Ive personally been aided by it. this school is not for everyone, you have to actually want to become a better person. I went in knowing the causes for why I was there, and I knew what I had to do. I can tell you, I would not be in college right now without it. FMS made me who I am today, and I am eternally glad for it. Just because these cadets didnt want to find the right road for their future is not Fishburne's fault. Do you blame them for giving everybody a chance like the one I got? If you send your child here, it is up to them to make the decision, and they alone can decide. The parents of these cadets are bad parents; send your children to rehabilitation if they really need help. This is a place for boys to become men, and I know that from experience.
Thank you Mrs. Johnson, Col. Zinser, Cpt. Pullin, Cmdr Gest, Coach G., MsSgt Jones, and to the whole corps
Through the portals to the future, FMS we march with you!!!

My son was making D's in public school, and was bullied. At home he had become agoraphobic, and had great social anxiety, and performance anxiety. He attended 5 years at Fishburne by his own choice, learned social skills, and lost his fear of performance. He blossomed in a way that was beautiful to see. He graduated as valedictorian, and was accepted to quite a number of Tier One and Tier Two engineering schools. He did well in college and is now a successful engineer. Military school is what the student makes of it. The teachers at FMS are excellent and caring.

Your writing style is eloquent, maybe you should have studied a little more in English . Your writing is atrocious.

As a parent of a current cadet I have heard terrible things that have been going on this year at Fishburne: drugs, drinking, smoking, bullying, seniors being kicked out. I have been shown the evidence on social media by another concerned parent. The staff members tell the kids not to tell their parents about the abusive behaviors they witness and remind them if they get kicked out the parents lose their money. After what we heard at Parents' weekend, we are looking for an option for next year. They definitely don't want parents talking to one another. The place is filthy except during special events and it is true they use the students for a lot of cleaning that is surprising to me.
