"big lesson to be learned"

Well that certainly was an all-emcompassing and highly educational statement from Colonel Klink.

Students that need real discipline bunk at the Virginia Department of Corrections.

These tend to be the heirs to money and daddy is tired of them filling the mansion with their fumes so they get packed off to gee-gee-gee Waynesboro.

I'd like to see NBC 29 reach out to the guys that beg money on Freebridge and ask them about their Virginia Department of Corrections release program wardrobe.

AKA: Parents that don't have time for them because they are to busy with careers. How did this nation get in such bad shape again? Sending "children" to military schools perhaps?

Wow, I am surprised at the comments from people who only post what they think they know about the young men at FMS. Most of these young men want to be at FMS and want to be in a learning inviroment that not only provides them the means to be excepted into top colleges, but also teaches them to be very responsible adults. These are not young men who need dicipline nor are they young men whose parents do not want them or tired of dealing with them. These young men work very hard, harder then then their peers. So, a few of them tried something and realized their mistake. If you think it is not happening is every other school...think again.

They only make us clean when parents are coming none of us want to come here plus this school has no DISIPLIN period. I am a fishburne cadet and I hate this place because it's grimy

Hhaha yeah now we defenitly do not want to be at a military school. This is the worst school I've been to. And who are you to tell us we want to be here? We don't.

Actually, in some cases that has helped our nation. Do you have any idea how many good leaders have attended military schools? Obviously you don't.

This is a completely true statement, except military schools have changed because of new laws. Military schools used to produce great leaders, but now they are just used as punishment for bad behavior. FMS was never ment to be a military school. it is mainly and educational school. The military in Fishburne is just to keep people from getting distracted from their school work. So if you sent your kid to FMS for bad behavior its not really gonna help.

I love how everyone professes to hates profiling and stereotyping yet it's okay to pick on "the rich", "the military schools", etc. Stereotyping is stereotyping. There are good kids, bad kids, rich kids, poor kids, troubled kids in ALL schools -- independent, parochial, public and homeschools.

I am not rich. My family is not rich. Not even close, but my son is at this school. He hates it. But we had no choice. The school does the best they can but in the end, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. I wish the news would have done a better job reporting on this story since there's a lot of unanswered questions. We pay them over $30K per year with loans our family has taken to ensure the staff will take good care of our sons & teach them things that somehow we failed as parents to do yet oversee them from making poor choices (like overdose). It's very upsetting to hear they failed on this mark & I had to hear from it via a text from another person then read it off the message board rather than be contacted by the school itself.

I don't know about Fishburne, but I once attended a parade at FUMA. From what I saw, the faculty included a disproportionate lot of old men who never served going around wearing uniforms and pretending to hold ranks they never earned, making a lot of unfortunate young men pretend to be their soldiers and march around a field while glamorizing and glossing over the heroism, horror and heartbreak of war. My grandfather, my father and I all worked d*mn hard in the Army to earn our ranks and uniforms, and I served with lots of excellent real-life soldiers who also worked d*mn hard. I find the whole idea of these faux-military academies rather appalling.

I guess if your opinion of "good leader" is one who loves preparing for war and occupying other nations. Have you read the post by the kids that are going there? Kids should learn to play and have fun, not be disiplined by someone other than their parents. oh yeah, FYI, when putting all boys and men with absolutly no women together things get screwed. Like the boyscouts, catholic church, military ect.
