Augusta Sheriff's Office Gets Help From Woodrow Wilson Rehab PD

Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center has had its own dedicated police department for 65 years, but in 2012, that small agency in Fishersville has become a longer arm of the law. Full Story

"The sheriff's office says some citizens may not realize the Wilson Police Department is made up of sworn officers with full arrest powers in that expanded coverage area."

I have lived in the area most of my life and have attended classes at Vo-Tech several times over the years since the 1960s, but never knew that there was a Wilson Police Department. Learn something new every day.

Fishersville PD gets help from Wilson PD? Fishersville doesn't have a PD. And ya, this is exactly what we need... a half-dozen overzealous woo-wooland oinkers wreaking havoc and writing tickets on 250/608.

NBC29, please correct your story. Fishersville is not an incorporated locality and does not have a police department. Fishersville is patrolled by the Augusta County Sheriff's Office (that's why you interviewed the Sheriff...)

The problem in NOT law enforcement officers, it is "overzealous" drivers who cant obey speed limits.

If the Officers were on post where they are assigned they wouldn't be in the apartment complex or the 7/11 store to see anything that may be going on. They are being paid to keep the Woodrow Wilson Rehab. center safe for the students and employees who live there.

Nexts time you see a rehab cop out on rt 250 or begging for free donuts at the 7/11 report it to the Va State Police..unsupervised cop out of his area....

The residents living along Rt250 or in the area of Fishersville should ask the Sheriff Department why its too much work to patrol their area and keep them safe. Maybe if they depend on Woodrow Wilson Police to do their job they will take a pay cut and give the citizens a tax cut.....its a thought....

The Woodrow Wilson Rehab center is located on STATE property and the police are hired by the State, not the Augusta County Sheriff Department. I assume Sheriff Fisher realize the Woodrow Wilson Cops are better trained and equipped to handle crime in that part of the county. Lets Replace the Sheriff Office with Woodrow Wilson police and let the Sheriff just be a process server.

The problem for speeders is RADAR enforcement by the Sheriff Department and Va. State Police. I have notice plenty of police cars running radar in that area. You can only get so many speeding tickets before they suspend your license and you ride a mopad.

I grew up in Fishersville in the 60's. We had a police department and a mayor. LOL...it was us teen aged boys. We had enough problems with the State PD. Named Petefish and Collier.
