It will be quite interesting, but I doubt the public will ever see the results of the black box analysis.

And, why the rush? A good fight is over before law enforcement arrives on the scene. The academy should have taught Sholes this.

But, wishing him a fast and speedy recovery! A lot of rookies have to learn to slow down the hard way.

Agreed! When you are the one calling the cops because there is a fight, etc at your house, I doubt you want them to take their time getting there! These men & women put their lives on the line every single day for US! We should be grateful that there are people willing to do this job knowing that there may be a day they won't come home to their family!

JRP, I believe you misread my post. I was berating the two persons that posted rude comments about the injured deputy. I noticed that NBC29 removed one of those responses. I'm for the deputy making a speedy recovery and thank him for his service!

How about some charges against this clown...i.e. reckless driving.....destruction of public property...speeding and any other charges that can be thought of....I know if this was an average citizen there would be enough charges against them to put them away for life.....This guy has no business being a police officer....He gives cops a bad name....

WOW, You're a real special kind of idiot aren't you! They would not charge a citizen like that and he was responding legally with his lights and siren.

It 11.5 miles from crimora to fishersville must have gone about a mile before the crash, must have been in low range!! wonder what he would have done at hi speed?? He might have been killed!! Remember keep the rubber side down And the shiny side up!!(GEORGE GEORGE WATCH THAT TREE)

"Insurance will cover the accident"...well who do you think pays for the insurance...think about it...eventually you'll figure it out....(answer the taxpayer)...Also, cops responding to any incident are not going to prevent an incident, the incident has already happened and they are only responding as observers, investigators and crime scence security...Speeding and reckless driving are not necessary....I repeat that I hope they fire this clown and charge him with reckless driving, failure to maintain control of his vehicle, speeding, and any other charges which a smart lawyer can think of.....This clown could have killed an innocent person...He needs to be fired...

There is no way he'll ever get charged or even disciplined. Look at his connections. This thing is surrounded by nepotism. With a family history in the department, a wife working as a dispatcher, and a grandfather retired from the State Police, who is going to write a negative report?

Jogger, you really should have some knowledge about a subject before you offer up your opinion. First, you should read the code of Virginia and realize your demands are not possible. Second, police do limit damage by arriving at the scene of a fight quickly. This is simply because it stops the fight from escalating further. So, until you can do a better job, bit your tongue.

A lot of times when the police are called- the crime is still in progress. Many times a fight ensues- the people will continue to fight till the police do get there. A lot of times more and more people get into the fighting causing more people to get hurt. Officer Sholes had a job to do- and in my opinion- he had set out to do that job. I dont think anybody has mentioned that the media said a tire may have blown on the police car. I dont know how many people have experienced a tire blowing- but it can cause a person to lose control of a car very very quickly!!!

My prayers go up for Mr Sholes and his family- and I wish him a good speed recovery!!

No cheap shots intended on my behalf. After the deputy recovers from two broken legs and months of physical therapy, and returns to work, he will realize the injuries aren't worth rushing to a white trash fight next time. More likely than not, the white trash had finished their fight and were enjoying another beer as they kissed and made up even before the deputy was loaded in the medical helicopter.

For the rest of you cop-huggers, if the deputy had run into a minivan and killed 3 or 4 of your family members you will perhaps see and understand the seriousness of this fast and reckless driving by a law enforcement officer.

The cops don't run the same type of tire that you and I do. They use Goodyear Eagle speed rated tires. I don't ever recall seeing one of these blow out and being listed as the cause of a police car crash.

And even so, blowing out a rear tire is not half as bad as blowing a front tire.

I understand Augusta County is a big county, but how many deputies do they have? Sending someone from Crimora to Fishersville for a fight?? I live on a main road, however still in a residential area and a school zone...watch them fly by racing to the emergency at speeds where control of the vehicle would be impossible if confronted by a sudden hazard around the bend...I KNOW its a fine line, and YES if it was my emergency I'd want them to hurry, but I dont see where a fight warranted speed over this distance...as for the tires, you would think they would have the run-flat kind that wouldn't "blow out", but I am FAR from a tire expert...
