Chris, if you look above at a post dated 8/24/10 by Mike Desper who manages the facility....he announced it had a new name.

I wish Mike and Mountain Spring RV Resort many, many years of success.

While I can't erase the memories from my years visiting SA (and I have opened a facebook page called Remembering SA), we need to move on now.

Mountain Spring RV Resort is Not Shenandoah Acres, it just happens to be located where SA used to be. You cannot compare the two, they have basically different functions.

RIP Shenandoah Acres, thank you for decades of fun in the sun; but now I put you to rest and will think of you fondly through pictures both on paper and in my mind.

September 2010 update! Shenandoah Acres is officially dead! Someone has bought at least the campground and renamed it so it is no longer SA campground. Not sure if they bought all the property, or are leasing the campground. The only structures remaining at the lake are the diving pier and the original slide pier, along with the old bath house and the new beach house. Anyone with pix should post.
I heard it shut down years ago. The Acres was not what it once was in earlier years, anyway. The last years were not good ones in my opinion - more trouble for the Blackas than it was probably worth. I once heard somebody call it "The Redneck Riviera". It was just that in its last years as far as I'm concerned. Dirty, over crowded, employees catching morons sneaking in and idiots not obeying the rules and making it bad for everybody else. It's a wonder the Blackas were not sued to death. I camped there when it had roughly a 100 sites and it had over 250 campers that weekend. Tell me what was smart about allowing that. Then so many people at the lake there was not room to set a towel down, messy bathrooms... some of us don't really miss it that much because it just got out of hand.

It did shut down years ago. No, it wasn't what it was in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Those are where my memories lie, and most of them as a child, teenager, young adult. Times change, unfortunately, and the good things are made bad by those who want something for nothing. I have put this issue to rest. I'll always miss SA, the SA I remember and adored.

Out with the old, in with the new. While The Acres will and should be fondly remembered by most who went there, how about creating some new memories at the new resort? Remember, it is just starting up. It will take some time for it to realize its full potential! Only then can a fair assessment be made. We should be thankfull that a effort is being made to keep the property a place of recreation, and not paved over and gone forever! I miss Shenandoah Acres dearly but hope the new resort, when fully established, will help fill the void!

I can't get on the web site, says web site disabled. Is the lake back open or what, one minute i read not opening it and then the next thing i read says it is opening, this is very confusing. I would like for someone to get back to me on this matter, thanks. You can send an email to my box at terryshifflett95@yahoo.com, again thanks.

I went there is a kid many many times and I absolutely loved the place. I have many good memories. I cannot believe that it's closed. I wanted to take my three kids there but now I can't. I tried to explain it to them and now they want to go. I told them about the time I broke my shoulder on the cable line(I didn't even hold them responsible). And they thought I was crazy because I told them I would do it again just because it was so much fun. it was very affordable and a lot of fun.

Just giving a review based on personal experience, no reason for you to be rude and call people names.

What you can't deal with anyone going beyond your perception of what camping really is and isn't ? Whose really being shallow here, Muffin?

You don't have to try to ruin anyone's fond memories of the place just because you didn't like it. Why troll a site just to be hateful? If it is that bad why not stay in wonderful Gloucester and visit one of their renowned campgrounds?

My entire family grew up going there. From my parents all the way to my children. Im still rather young,31 and the lake would b enough along with camping. If you need accessories, grab some water guns or the new spray bottles for the kids some noodles, floats and its same old day at SA beach! We just want it back open. The point of the lake is to cool down, splash, play, beat the heat, and have fun. And we are waiting patiently..but HURRY!!

This place was a place I went one time as a child and it has never left my memory, mainly because it was one of my best ever memories. So much so, when I grew up and had children I tracked it down from my memory and husband was amazed I remembered something from age 10 yrs old and we took our kids who also loved it so much they to never forgot it. I now have a grandson, whom I would love to take and when I found out it closed I just wanted to cry. I loved that place, my thought if its so expensive to insure the lake with playground and or a splash park like bush gardens then why not do like a time share type thing for those of us who love this place so we can help with the cost of it staying opened and make campers and alike sign a waiver that the campground is not responsible for accidents associated with use of Lake playground, parents are responsible for supervision of their children at all times and children under 18 yrs of age must be supervised at all times by an adult. And have some 1, 2, strike 3 rules your out and not welcome back type rules including time share and or club members. That way those that have a time share membership would be sure to make sure everyone follows the rules as they are just as responsible. I loved this place and I'd be the biggest you know what about everyone following the rules when I'm there enjoying my peice of happiness and time share. JUST A THOUGH PEOPLE, , TIME SHARE OR SPECIAL CLUB MEMBERSHIPS TO REOPEN SHENANADOAH ACRES RESORT CAMPGROUND TO THE ONES WHO LOVE THE MEMORIES AND WANT TO KEEP IT A SPECIAL MEMORY PLACE,

Making it a time share campground or membership campground is a great idea to help pay for the high insurance cost and maintaining it. I would be first to apply cause this place has memories in the hearts of my family from way back. My grand kids would love it and I've been waiting for it to reopen.

Shenandoah Acres is now reopen and ready for campers, swimmers, and renters. We recently stayed there and the experience was amazing and relaxing. We rented a cabin and it was perfect for myself, husband, young daughter. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to have a short weekend get away with there family. The staff is very friendly and willing to help with anything. The cabins are very nice and seemed to be updated since they were last open. I think that with time they are planning on restoring some slides to the lake and also a lot of kids play items in the water. Right now it is just the lake and nothing in there, just for swimming, which is still very nice. I used to go there as a kid and remember all the slides and fun stuff to do so it will be nice to take my daughter there next year and she can have all that same experience. I can not wait to see what SA has in store for the up coming years and seasons! My family and I will be sure to visit again really soon.
