As a registered Independent, let me give 50 an answer, even if it pertains only to my choice.
I 1st registered to one party in my youth but after a couple of elections, local, state, & federal, I realized that I never voted a single party ticket, I voted for the individual, their campaign promises & record if they had one.
That told me that I didn't feel strongly for either party since both have liberals & conservatives. Both have cheaters, liars, tax evaders, & shell game hustlers. There for I am an Independent voter. The primary effects of being registered as Independent is that in most states, you can't vote in primaries, AND you get fewer contacts from either major party for donations.
I agree and used to feel the same way. But as Limbaugh stated so frequently, when Democrats want to win elections, they start talking like conservatives to a point. In other words, they are lying.

I consider myself about 70% Republican and 30% Libertarian. That's because of recent years, the Republicans seemed to have abandoned the "small government" message. They are too consumed with religion and abortion than smaller government. I would be a total Libertarian, but I don't like their stance on our military, war and narcotics that are currently illegal.

But that doesn't mean I'm an Independent. I'm still a Republican, I just don't agree with some of their views.

I understand you're a liberal, and as such, slower than the rest of Americans, but how many times do I have to explain how the money he gave to me was subject to taxation and costs to his company before I receive what's left over? I don't get even half of the money he paid into my healthcare plan, not to mention individual plans are much more expensive then group plans.

Again I ask: how many people do you know that have a residual five to six hundred dollars left at the end of the month after all their expenses are paid? If they do have this disposable income, why have they not been applying it to their home loan, their car loan, their credit cards or collage loans for their children? Or do you know such people that don't have these expenses? I don't know of any people like that. Do you?

And if you do know people like that, why were they not investing that residual income in real estate, the stock market or commodities? Why did they not invest in their own business?

The problem is you government leeches have no idea how things are for working people. Because government takes care of everything for you doesn't work that way when you depend on only yourself and perhaps your spouse. Your fantasy of how things operate for working people is just that, a fantasy.

Your employer screwed you, not your government. God, you are painfully stupid.

Why do you assume that anyone who wants to do the right thing doesn't take care of themselves? That is another stupid conclusion you cling to.

Yes, the economy was in decline. But instead of blaming Bush, you should be thanking him for trying to save us from the democrats. He and others kept warning Sen. Barney Frank (D), who was chairman of the House Banking Committee, about the impending crisis. Frank didn't think there was a problem, so he refused to do anything about it.

I'd like to think Obama is making an effort to get people off welfare, but when I keep hearing ads to encourage people to get on welfare -- ads paid for with our tax dollars -- I'm not convinced. Before the Obama administration, did you ever hear government-sponsored ads promoting welfare? I don't think I ever did.
Do you mean the tax cuts that George W. pushed through, that the Democrats said would lead to budget deficits (and did), or the House refusing to raise the debt limit?
"S&P revised the revenue assumptions underlying one of their future debt-level projections:
"Compared with previous projections, our revised base case scenario now assumes that the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, due to expire by the end of 2012, remain in place. We have changed our assumption on this because the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues...""
The tax cuts raised revenue.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/beltway/2012/02/2...

But that's beside the point. Is raising revenue the only way to be fiscally responsible? If you were spending more than you were taking in, and your credit rating was being downgraded, would you refuse to make any attempts to balance your budget, and opt instead, to bully your family & friends into giving you more money? Or would you make some serious cuts in your spending, and reevaluate your priorities? I mean really, couldn't we have agreed to build fewer mosques in countries that hate us? Couldn't Obama & Michelle have flown the same plane to their vacation spot, instead of taking two separate ones on the same day? It's ridiculous to think that we can't trim some big chunks of fat off such a wasteful, bloated government. Why do democrats always think that the only option to fix our budget problems, is the one that takes money away from hard-working Americans -- many of whom can hardly pay their own bills?

I have to slightly disagree a little bit. At least speaking for myself. I personally complain about the voters or the voices that want the easy fix as you put it. I am not following the political winds of the time either. I will vote for things that may not be directly beneficial to me as long as it does benefit this country as a whole.
Sometimes I feel the fool for feeling so idealistic with the choices that we have to vote for at election time.
I appreciate your position. But how do you finally make a choice?

I used to debate an independent who is staunchly pro-2nd Amendment, which is typically not the position of democrats. But on the other hand, he believed tax increases were necessary, and he despised the top 1%. He ended up voting for Obama in 2012, and needless to say, he has buyer's remorse. But that aside, I honestly don't get that kind of dilemma. Anyone who knows anything about democrats, knows that their ultimate objective is to ban guns. They are also in thick with Wall St. and the wealthy. All their rhetoric is designed to do, is to pit one "class" of people against another, in an attempt to not only get votes, but also fool the lower classes into supporting tax hikes. But what the lower classes refuse to understand, is that they will not be immune to tax hikes, once those doors are opened.

Maybe two of the core problems for many independents is a lack of understanding of history, as well as an inability to see that the rhetoric of some politicians doesn't match the ideology.

Pops, I'd like to add that the independent voter I referenced in my previous post decided to vote for Obama because he hated Romney. He hated Romney just because he was rich. So, he chose to believe the democrats' rhetoric that they didn't really want to take his guns away, and that they were going to stick it to guys like Romney. In my way of thinking, he voted based on emotion -- not knowledge.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

These Cradle-to-Gravers make every excuse in the world for the tragedies that Americans like myself now face. No matter what happens, no matter how bad things get, no matter how many die, it's never DumBama's fault with them.

Think of the stupidity behind Commie Care. Okay, so we have people that are not insured because they either can't secure a job that provides healthcare insurance or they don't have nearly enough money to buy it themselves. Let's see, I'm a Democrat, so I have all the answers. I know! We'll make a law that the people that can't afford insurance get insurance, and we'll take away even more money from them if they don't.

This is your typical liberal mindset to solving problems in this country, and this is a prime example of why they should never have power in Congress, Senate or the White House again. How can you elect people that use Commie Care logic to try and solve a problem? All they did is make it worse. And liberals are too stupid to understand that you can't legislate solutions to every single problem in the world.

First, you still continue to blame the wrong entity for your loss of insurance. You admitted it once, your boss was just looking for a convenient way to screw you that he knew you would blame someone else for.

Second, the ACA is in reality a GOP model designed to protect insurance companies. If the liberals had their way like you think they did, we would have a single payer system.
