Yeah, most of the folks now in Congress are millionaires. But there are some poor ones, too:
I think it's a shame that you have to be rich to run for office. Increasing Congressional pay would allow the non-rich to serve without going into debt. And it might make them more resistant to those that would offer them bribes for favorable legislation.
But I don't think that will happen. The wealthy are quite happy with the status quo.
I know that I will appear to be cynical & untrusting, but could that fact be a motivation to enter 'public office'? The benefits, connections & protections that come with such positions?
