At least 27 people fell victim to a tire scam in Georgetown and police believe there are more out there.

The Discount Tire and Auto Repair shop on Bourbon Street is now closed but it was the location where those 27 people paid for tires but walked out empty handed.

"It was a major inconvenience. It was the first time I ever bought anything off of Craigslist and it will probably be the last too," says Chris Blao, a Georgetown resident.

The tires were balding on Blao's Toyota Tacoma. He went shopping for what he thought was the best deal on tires, "I saw that he had an ad on Craigslist. I went and checked him out. He said he could get them for $110 a piece. He had tons of tires in the store and all of the equipment. I was like okay. My neighbor heard that he had been in business for a few years...so it sounded legit," adds Blao.

He paid just over $400 for four tires, but was given the run around when it came to getting what he paid for, "I was like okay, I'll wait a week. I'm getting a good price," says Blao.

He received excuse after excuse from Truston Romans, the man running the tire business but not the tires.

"I'm a patient person. I thought it's fine. I'll wait a little bit longer," Blao adds.

Finally, like his tires, Blao's patience was thinning, " I had heard so many excuses, that I was just like, whatever. That's when I called Georgetown police."

"We ended up one day with ten people at his shop, expecting to receive tires. And he wasn't there," says Lt. Robert Swanigan with Georgetown police.

The Georgetown Police Department launched an investigation and arrested Truston Romans. He now faces 27 counts of theft by fraud. Police say that it is not the first time that Romans has been untrustworthy.

According to police, Romans was cooperative and blamed the scam on a pill problem.

"He confessed to his crimes," adds Swanigan.

Blao ended up paying for tires elsewhere, but having to dish out more money is putting a strain on his family, "Now I'm a $1,000 in the hole. I'm probably not going to get my money back. It definitely dug deep into my pocketbook, especially going into Christmas right now."

Georgetown police expect more victims to come forward with similar complaints.

Romans will be arraigned in the Scott County courthouse tomorrow.

I am like everyone else on the long list of complaints and waiting for my money (not) but does anyone have anymore information on what is to happen? And if this case does go to court for restitution, will we get notified?

At least you were able to get your truck back. Hopefully you will get some of that restitution money since you were a victim.

The following day of getting the info about the detective on the case I called him and was able to get my husband's truck...Thank goodness all of the new parts he had bought were still there, they did although steal the brand new battery off of the truck. So we are pretty much out $400.00 for work that was never done on the truck,$90.00 for the stolen battery & another tow bill for $65.00 to have it brought back home. We also were added to the long list of people that have filed charges on them, now I guess we wait to see if by very slim chance we get our money back.
