What a predatory industry... Too bad our government lets this sort of thing go on.

Why don't they sue her for all 1,700 songs--then she would owe something like 30 billion...

What is "predatory" about the recording industry trying to protect copyrighted material? When you buy a CD, you purchase it with very specific prohibitions on copying or duplicating or broadcasting the material without express consent of the rights holder. You own the CD, not the rights to distribute the contents.

What is predatory about a billion dollar industry going after a single parent over a few stupid songs? This would be the same industry that bullies bar's and clubs into buying their licenses over the threat of a lawsuit - even if they exclusively have a live band playing their own material. It should also be pointed out this "industry" produces exactly nothing. They just sit on their fat butts counting the money earned by others. One hopes they get some horrible disease...

A $1,920,000.00 penalty for the theft of 24 digital files worth 99 cents each, is predatory.

Jurors are responsible for giving a verdict based on evidence, the preditory recording industry is responsible for lobbying congress to pass federal laws that enable the destruction of individuals.

In Civil cases the award comes from the Jury.

As for the rest of that drivel, I am quite sure you would be the first one screaming, should someone infringe on YOUR copyright.

Gee, professor, thanks for 'splaining it to me. I never understood that part when I took intellectual property in law school.

Now, if you don't see anything wrong with the 1.92 million dollar fine, then there is nothing I can do to change that.

The statutory damages in the law is the problem, the jury applied the law.

I sell a software product that I wrote, and I am sure it has been pirated. Nonetheless, I do not agree with the statutory penalties.

That's why you should be a leacher. You can't get in trouble if you don't share the files you download.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Taurus

It's no good - the prospect of visiting the post-Christmas sales has become too tempting for you to resist any longer. No matter what you're doing today, you'll try to squeeze in the opportunity to dash around some of your favourite shops and see what's on offer. You could snap up some bargains but you should guard against the urge to splurge on items that you don't really want or need. The price of something may have been slashed but the acid test is whether you'd still buy it if it were full price. If not, leave it in the shop!
