CHICAGO (MarketWatch)-- The Treasury Department is resisting General Motors' push for the government to sell off its stake in the auto maker, The Wall Street Journal reports. Following a $50 billion bailout in 2009, the U.S. taxpayers now own almost 27% of the company. But the newspaper said GM executives are now chafing at that, saying it hurts the company's reputation and its ability to attract top talent due to pay restrictions. Earlier this year, GM presented a plan to repurchase 200 million of the 500 million shares the U.S. holds with the balance being sold via a public offering. But officials at the Treasury Department were not interested as selling now would lead to a multibillion dollar loss......

The Government is by the people and for the people. Government owned property is PUBLIC PROPERTY.

The GM stock is owned by the taxpayers NOT the Treasury Department.

All this Obamanomics is anti Capitalistic, it's time to return the USA to Capitalistic country. Socialism is proved over and over to fail because of out of control Government, ala Greese etc.

This was a fun article. Having the govt own 27% of GM is HURTING the company.

"GM executives are now chafing at that, saying it hurts the company's reputation and its ability to attract top talent due to pay restrictions."

That's what they get for taking the handout in the first place instead of filing for restructuring. You know, like all of those small companies (many of which ended up failing) who are not given special privileges from the feds.

But just like the banks on Wall Stret that Obama bought off last week with his $40 BILLION PER MONTH purchase of their toxic assets, GM was too big to fail. Therefore the Marxist is going to have the Imperial Federal Government take over those industries.

Oh...and the little banks, or the little manufacturing companies or anyone other than those that can really line Obama's very deep pockets with campaign cash...to hell with them. They are not needed. Let them go under.

Doesn't matter which pres it was. GM still made the mistake of taking the money and their army of lawyers and accountants probably warned their boards about the possible outcome. Bush signed the TARP program in to being and Obama had no problem continuing an already failed policy. Maybe Dubya should invite Barack out to the ranch for some beers.

Barak is a follower NOT a leader.

Barak promised Hope and Change and did little more than follow GW. GITMO is open, pulled out of Iraq and now it's turning ugly, GIs dieing in Afghanistan for what, Mooslim Spring is in winter already, the US is being thrown out of the Middle East because of US freedom of speech, ObamaCare is nothing but nationwide RomneyCare, Cash For Clunkers accomplished WHAT, all of Obama's chosen winner companies, Solyndra/GM/Chrysler/WindTech have failed, US debt will kill the country in the near future!!

I'd buy GM again IF it were a 100% non-Obama company. As it is now I'm a FORD MAN all the way!!

Never thought I'd say that..

Because he has yet to put a stop to the Bush policies and is continuing with bailouts/welfare for his heartiest campaign contributors.

He has not closed Guantanamo.

He did not pull out of Iraq on the schedule he laid out and there are still troops there.

He has still not pulled out of Afghanistan. Another of his unkept campaign promises.

He has not addressed the illegal alien issue except by giving them another "handout with amnesty" cookie.

These are all policies that Bush had during his administration and handed down to Obama. And Bush is no longer in office (thank the stars). The problems of the nation belong to Obama for now.

At the very least, as the CiC, Obama could have directly ordered the destruction of Guantanamo, the full pullout from Iran and Afghanistan.

Daily Horoscope for June 19

Capricorn

You're feeling slightly unconventional and you're looking for activities that will reflect your mood. You certainly won't be very keen on doing things that are drearily predictable or boring, although you'll grit your teeth and get on with them if you have no choice. But ideally you should do things on the spur of the moment, preferably in the company of people who make you feel alive and alert.
