What to do, I filed my taxes back in January and I just got a 2008 1099-C cancellation of debt notice?Back in 2001 I added my ex to my Macys account since she didn't have any credit history, at the end of 2003 we split and before she went back to Ireland for good, she ran the credit card to the ground... since it was a joint account they tried to collect the money from me, but since I moved to the east coast in 2005 they stopped calling me and mailing stuff, however, I moved into a new home back in December of 2008 and my old Landlord just mail me a bulk of junk to my current address( eventhough I did a change of address with the USPS) and in all of it was a 1099-C form of Cancellation of debt from Macys.
Now does it count towards my income since is a 1099???? and what do I do know since I already file my taxes and I did it myself?? will that affect me?? can I file this form next year?? also does it mean that debt is now cancelled and my name is cleared??? should I go to one of those H&R places???
