SC RESIDENTS ARE AWARE THE KERSHAW COUNTY SHERRIFFS DEPARTMENT DID NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO ISSUE AN AMBER ALERT WHEN ELIZABETH WENT MISSING. HOWEVER, THE FAMILY IS NOT 100% SATISFIED WITH THE WAY KERSHAW COUNTY (SHERRIFF MCCASKILL) HANDLED THIS CASE. HE NEVER WENT TO THE SHOAF'S HOUSE DURING THE 10 DAYS ELIZABETH WAS MISSING AND THERE WAS NOT A DEPUTY AT THE HOUSE 24/7 FOR 10 DAYS. IF MCCASKILL HAD THOROUGHLY SEARCHED FILYAW'S HOME IN 2005-2006 HE WOULD HAVE FOUND THE HIDDEN BUNKERS UNDER AND ABOUT THE TRAILER AND POSSIBLY COULD HAVE MADE AN ARREST AND NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE EVER HAPPEND TO ELIZABETH! YOU COULD PLAINLY SEE ON TV MCCASKILL WAS UPSET AND EMBARRESSED WHEN ASKED IF ELIZABETH’S SEARCH WAS HANDLED PROPERLY…BECAUSE IT WAS NOT! THIS CHILD WAS NOT A RUN-AWAY AND HE AND HIS STAFF WERE SO QUICK TO DISMISS HER AS ONE. THE SHOAF FAMILY BEGGED FOR MCCASKILL’S FULL ATTENTION AND FOR ADDITIONAL RESOURSES TO BE CALLED IN TO HELP FIND ELIZABETH. KERSHAW COUNTY POLICE DID NOT TAKE THIS CASE SERIOUSLY UNTIL ELIZABETH SO BRAVELY TEXT MESSAGED HER MOTHER. THE RESIDENTS OF KERSHAW COUNTY NEED TO SERIOUSLY DESIDE IF MCCASKILL IS WHO THEY WANT AS SHERRIFF WHEN ELECTION TIME COMES AROUND. I SURELY WOULD NOT MY CHILD'S SAFETY TO BE IN SHERRIFF MCCASKILL'S HANDS.
YOU COULDN'T BE FURTHER OFF BASE IF YOU TRIED!!! SHERRIFF MCCASKILL GAVE THIS CASE HIS FULL ATTENTION. NOT ONLY WAS SLED INVOLVED, BUT THERE WAS A SHERRIFFS DEPUTY AT THE HOME OF CHILD AT ALL TIMES. I KNOW THIS AS FACT NOT RUMOR. IT WAS TAKEN SERIOUSLY FROM DAY ONE. UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO THE AMBER ALERT LAW, AN AMBER ALERT COULD NOT BE ISSUED, INSTEAD OF SLAMMING SHERRIFF MCCASKILL, LOBBY YOUR STATE AND FEDERAL REPRESENTATIVES TO HAVE THE LAW AND CRITERIA CHANGED. UNTIL YOU KNOW THE FACTS AND WHAT THE HELL YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT...SHUT UP! THE MEDIA WILL PUT A SPIN ON ANYTHING TO MAKE IT MORE "NEWS-WORTHY"

Pardon me? You're the one that is the furthest from the truth. My husband was there every day helping in the search for Elizabeth. There was not a deputy at the home at all times. There wasn't even deputies searching all the time. Maccaskill refused to let richland county to get involved for days. This isn't midia news, this came from someone that was there every day. The poster you replied to is telling the truth. You're the one that don't know what you're talking about.

It is difficult to take the word of someone who cannot even use correct grammar or spell commonly used words.
I am sure your husband's help was appreciated, but how did he search daily? Did he keep walking around the neighborhood where she lived? Since no one saw her disappear, no one actually knew where to search. It wasn't evident whether she was taken by car or foot.
Perhaps you don't realize that when bloodhounds are used, if there are too many scents in an area, it becomes impossible for the dogs to discriminate and follow a trail. Unfortunately, sometimes people who intend to help actually end up making the search more difficult by "clouding" the scent trail.
Deputies WERE looking every day, but perhaps you are not aware that interviewing and following up leads is a part of the process. When a trail grows cold, part of "searching" is locating new trails by gathering anecdotal evidence from family, friends, etc. There is not always evidence to support random searching, of which you are speaking.

You just showed your ignorance, English teacher. It doesn't make any difference whether one can read, write or spell to be taken seriously. Why don't you ask the Sheriff, why they only searched around the neighborhood where she lived, since there wasn't any evidence whither she disappeared by car or foot? There wasn’t anyone walking around clouding the scent trail. They were ridding 4 wheelers and horses. They were only searching where they were gave permission to search at. Those dogs they brought in you’re talking about, weren’t the dogs they were supposed to be using. The handler of the bloodhounds they were supposed to use was out of town on vacation. No, the Deputies WERE NOT looking every day. So, English teacher, what I know has nothing to do with my spelling or grammar.

Thanks for the compliment. Teachers are among the most important people in our society. Too bad you obviously didn't focus in your language arts classes.
The "dog handler" was not on vacation. There is actually a team of bloodhound handlers who work for the Sheriff's Office. They are all veteran officers, and none outranks the other, so there were qualified, experienced men on the scene the very day she disappeared. Neighbors and volunteers WERE indeed walking around searching in the neighborhood (which was the kind and generous thing to do), but it may have clouded the trail.
One additional question for you to ponder.(I don't really need any more of your expertise, so you don't need to respond. This is what English teachers call a rhetorical question.) Where do you suggest the Sheriff have started a search since, as you said, "there wasn't any evidence whether she disappeared by car or foot?". The best course of action was to put her face and story out in the public, which was done. She was the only lead...a young girl who had disappeared. The Sheriff's office acted properly and professionally. End of story.

<quoted text> The Sheriff's Department made wrong assumptions from onset. They labled her a runaway, not listening to the family. They should have had SLED involved the day of her disappearance, but for some reason they don't like to have other law enforcement's help in Kershaw County. The family had to take matters into their own hands and get flyers made up and posted throughout the county. The Sheriff's office did not take this child's diappearance seriously until the mother received a text message on Wednesday and then it took until Friday to get a location tracing the phone. The whole investigation was taken lightly and performed sloppy. To top it off, the Sheriff stated that he "would not have done anything differently." I hope Kershaw County is ready to vote November 7th for a new Sheriff, it sounds like this one is ready for retirement.
well kershaw county dont want others in that crooked county cause all them would lose there jobs for sitting on there rumps cause thats all they do i said countless times that the sheriffs department and the whole works needed to be looked into ya got county officials riding around serving warrants with there grandchildren in a state issued car and ect... list goes on and on a clean sweep of our sheriffs department and all the so called officials need to be looked into VOTERS TAKE A STAND IN THIS COUNTY SO MAYBE WE CAN CLEAN IT UP VOTE FOR SOMETHING NEW FOR A CHANGE WHAT HAS OUR SHERIFF EVER DONE FOR THIS COUNTY(VOTE VOTE VOTE GET THEM OUT OF THERE)) SO WE CAN FIND NEW LEADERSHIP WHO CARES SBOUT OUR FAMILYS IN THIS COUNTY......
