Thank you for explaining that to me, since people in Huntington need to know what volunteering means since we have never had it happen here before.(I am being sarcastic) Last night he said he had to work but whatever the reason we can agree, he wasn't there. Things do happen, priorities change and life goes on. It appears to be the beginnings of a saga. Dedication and hard work with little reward except for doing the right thing. Time will tell and we'll all be watching to see if it's successful.

I probably read more into it than meant. I hope the outcome will be a positive one for Huntington. I just know how stretched the City budget is and the fire department deserves financial commitment for the long haul. I'm not sure that is possible, I see a lot of promises from the City, now to see if they can follow through without letting other things suffer.

Since the City of Huntington is incorporated city they can decide who does and does not run calls in thier City. Now the County maintains a contract with Lufkin FD to handle medical emergencies in the County, however if the City of Hutington decide to have someone else provide 911 ambulance coverage with in the City limits, it is well within thier rights to do so Same applies for fire service. Once the City Department is up and running they can tell Lufkin to dispatch all 911 calls, that occur with in thier City limits to the City Department and could slap the other Department with a cease and desist order to prevent them from running within in the City Limits.

Jerry certainly hasn't been very forthcoming in answering questions since December 2012 from ANYONE!!!!!
That apparently is ONE of the reasons he and the department are where they are today.
[Frances, I am still getting information and formulating an answer to the question you asked me.]
It is regrettable and sad, but I don't think the area will support three fire departments.
There are unanswered questions. Will the "CITY" Fire Dept only answer calls inside the city limits?
Will the CITY attempt to prohibit the present HVFD from answering calls inside the city.
Does the city have the authority? After all, the City of Lufkin forbids private ambulances from making "EMERGENCY" calls within the city UNLESS they are called to back-up the City of Lufkin fire.
And Lufkin Fire does run out of ambulances several times a week and asks Americare for help.

I just found this post and its strange that I did as I work in County Attorneys Office and they are getting ready to serve the Huntington Volunteer Fire Department and Mr. and Mrs. LaSalle with warrants to sieze all financial records for last 5 years. I am sorry to see that it has come to this as I live in the county and I do not think that we have enough Fire Departments. People should just let things be

Your post amazes me! It seems all in one breath you put out information and also include what a shame it is. I will assume soon we will be saying what a shame it is you are no longer an employee with the County Attorney's office. This is bad conduct on your part in more ways than one. Since you have breached your employee code all ready. Just who filed this complaint with the County Attorney? I can say it can't be the City of Huntington because the City Council have not had a vote on this action. So tell us who has filed this motion?

Anyone know the information on the structure fire on 1669 this morning? I heard it was a total loss. Does anyone know who responded?

I belive since it was on 1669 and outside of the city Limits, the the Huntington Volunteer Fire Department would have gotten the first call out to it.

I was sleeping late and my scanner was in other room, but I think Moffitt was first call and they called for a tanker from Etoile. I'm not sure what other departments were called.

Keep in mind that a portion of FM 1669 also offsets and extends from Hwy 103 just past Sue's Country Store to Marion Ferry. I'm not sure exactly which part of 1669 was involved though.

An Ambulance was also dispatched.

The part of 1669 that was involved is 6 miles from the red light in Huntington toward 103. The structure (an older mobile home) was a total loss. There is another building on the property that is fairly close to the home that was not affected. I do not what departments responded or if there were any injuries. I have enough respect not to go gawking and looking so the emergency personnel can be more effective in what they have to do.

On the radio Huntington and Moffet were paged out both went enroute. Ora must have called in because dispatched paged them out even though they had two departments enrote. Huntington took two trucks an engine and a tanker. Moffet had an engine and Ora had a brush truck. Etoile got there with an engine. It was 1669 right pass the chicken houses.

Looks like the doors on the "city owned" fire station by the water tower has a new red paint job.

It is May, so how is the city dept coming along?
Has it made a run yet?

On another subject, What is the status of the fire siren.

The Monday sounding is all we get, right now an hour late. The refusal to keep the siren in good repair and on time is a real good picture of how everything else is being done too. Just think about it. The small things over time really do add up to a lot of BIG things not being repaired properly now.
The front doors have needed a paint job for quiet awhile. It's great to see it done, paint really doesn't cost that much. I understand the labor was furnished by ordered Community Service. That's where the Community Service should be required, actually doing service for the Community.
Since we are past May 1st.........is this no news is good news, you would think there would be an announcement about their progress.
