New Lena Mayor

Heard they really got a winner as the new mayor in Lena. That guy is one of the most obnoxious people I've ever met. He's arrogant! All I can say is poor little Lena better get ready to close down cause this guy is going to run everyone out of town. I feel sorry for anyone living in Lena and the folks having to work with this guy.

I heard some citizens tried to show up at a public meeting and he shut the door in their faces and told them it was a closed door meeting. All citizens are welcome to attend meetings unless they vote to go into executive session. That was just rude and also against the law. He violated the Open Meetings Act for the State of Mississippi. I'm sure the Ethics Commission and the Attorney Generals Office is aware of Mayor Kenneth Thames unlawful acts.

Do you think he really cares? I am glad there is a new mayor maybe he will fire that idiot who wants to be a cop, heard some real bad things about him. maybe he needs to stick to medical work

He needs to care cause I voted for him! The mayor has got some good ideas I just don't think he has full support from those board of aldermen or either he hasn't figured out how to get his agenda carried forward. As far as the cops we have in town, they are wonderful. The town used to be riddled with drunks and drug dealers and people who abused our town and its streets and our church grounds would have beer cans on them on Sunday mornings but not anymore thanks to our policemen we have in town. I take offense to you calling our Chief an idiot. He's a great person and everyone in town appreciates the job he has done; eventhough, he only works part-time. If you've heard bad things it's probably because he's doing his job and locking up the bad guys! If you can't say anything nice about people then you don't need to comment and that goes for the other people on this site leaving those mean and hateful messages.

At least you know your rights as an American but walk softly, because one slight word off the tongue wrong then you have committed slander. Hopefully you graduated some form of schooling and you know what's right and what's wrong but I don't think your parents taught you how to be nice so I'm sure you didn't have a Christian upbringing. Go to church this Sunday! You need it and deserve it!

I don't know the police but I know that mayor. He used to live over in Pocahontas. You all can say whatever you want but I know he's nothing but a trouble maker and a womanizer and likes hanging around young girls. Know alot of bad stuff on him.

usma1um84 that so called cop in lena is a idiot he has never locked anyone up he alway calls leake so and they come lock them up and you talking about drugs he probably does drugs he has never been to the academy he is a useless want to be cop that hides behind that badge he is a useless pig there is more drugs in lena than there is in leake county open your eyes and you will see

sounds like alot of you people in here have some bad feelings about the police and the mayor. i took it upon myself to call their town clerk and find out about the police and mayor. sounds like their working good together according to the clerk and she said the policemens certifications are hanging on the wall so somebody is lying in here about folks not being trained.

well i tell you what you can do go down there and look for your self if he has a cerification it is a parttime cerification he does not have a fulltime so he should not be the so called chief im telling you he is a joke if you dont know him just go hang around lena

I took it upon myself to go down there and see the clerk today. They only have 2 cops in town now she said. The other 2 were fired in July. She showed me the cop certifications and both officers have part time law enforcement officer written on them. Elaine told me that since they only work part-time that that is all the state requires and she showed me a letter that they got from the Attorney General and it says that a part time officer can be a police chief as long as they don't make over 1,150 bucks a month. That ain't no money. I wouldn't put my life on the line for that kind of money. I asked to see the chief but he was at another job. She said he worked for a couple of hospitals but that he just took a job in Pearl at that big Correctional prison over there. Anyway she said she was going to get him to call me. She said he was a great guy and the folks around there loved him. I asked her why he worked so many jobs and she said that he was raising 2 kids on his own...i don't blame the guy. Sounds like he just taking care of his family.

The police chief has 2 kids but is not raising them alone. Their mother is very much so in the picture. The children did not want to leave their school and environment. The chief is just doing his job with what little money he makes. He is a hard one, but he's the reason that town is still standing!!

I AGREE! They don't pay their officers hardly anything and they put their life on the line everytime they put on that badge and gun. He's tough alright but folks have respect for him because he's respectful. It's good to see any law enforcement out working these days and times. Keep up the good work Lena PD!!!
