As a parent of a child that goes to a Ludlow School, I don't think this will pass. For one, what are they planning to do?, have the kids go to school in the heat of the summer? They had to cancel school days last year due to the heat in the classrooms. These schools aren't prepared enough for this. They would spend just as much money on electricity, not to mention air conditioners they would have to purchase than to keep the school days as they are. I will be at these meetings to oppose this decision!

The sad but true fact is that the state (and or town) historically thinks more about the comfort of the inmates at the county jail. Last year that facility got NEW rooftop air conditioners, while the children and teachers in our schools sweltered without ANY air conditioning. That is absolutely INEXCUSABLE.

In case you aren't from Ludlow Theresa Kane is most likely the worst person ever to run a school system.

The Ludlow school will not save money it is to give teachers more time off,so they can ask for a pay raise.

I tend to agree with most of the above comments. Saving 43K dollars sounds great, at first. I remember way back when I was in school, the days in May and June when the weather was perfect, and the temps rose above 80 degrees, my attention was not on the teachers and books, but rather on getting the hell out of school and being outside. Saving $43K will surely yield lower grades...

I think this is absolutely ridiculous..so the kids are missing a few days in the winter?? Big deal, isn't that what snow days are for? My BF and a few friends went to Ludlow schools and hmm, how do I put this in a nice way..aren't the smartest bulbs on the christmas tree?? I think there's something in the school water. The only other option would be for the kids to go to school in the summer, as someone else had said..there goes your 43K! I seriously hope that you are at that meeting, notgoingtohappen, and you try your hardest to oppose the decision..its absolutely ridiculous!

I think Dr.Kane should have started with declining her 5% pay raise and $2000.00 increase in travel expenses (which the superintendent of Springfield Schools has done).

why doesn't Ms. Kane give back some of her 5% raise that she had to have.

Take the time to read the letter Ms. Kane sent to parents this week. I find it mind blowing that Ms. Kane can propose cuts and changes that impact the greater community and then, in the same letter, reference President Obama and Gov. Patrick stating "we will all be affected by this current economic situation" all while she actively defends her salary and travel increases. Brava to Natalina Tulik for standing her ground and not signing the new contract. I will take the time to respond to Ms. Kane and the school committee and I hope others will feel empowered to accept her invitation to do so.
