I'd rather be called an old woman- lady- what ever else- rather than a SENIOR CITIZEN.

I was very surprised to learn from a friend whose parent was living at Rose Manor, that all of Pittsfield elderly housing will also rent to anyone on social security (drug or alcoholics and those with mental issues) regardless of age. All of those who qualify with a doctors consent. I understand that there are quite a few. So much for "elderly housing".

I am fairly certain that if a project takes federal funding, they have to take disabled of any age!

That is not the way it was originally intended. Elderly housing was just that....for the elderly. Rose Manor was for elderly only. In fact, the original sign said "elderly housing".It has since been changed. Later they added any person receiving social security. The elderly living there have concerns because they are living with those who have drug or mental problsms. Their feelings of security is gone.

How sad that our elderly can't live in a safe project just for "the elderly".

Agreed....but the elderly are especially vulnerable. And can't there be separate federally funded housing to accommodate addicts, etc. And it blows my mind to think that drug addicts and alcholics are even eligible for social security. And I know the answer...it's considered a "disability".
