Judged: 1 You understand what a corp. is made of, right? There is plenty of taxes on corps. Shareholders/investors are taxed on capital gains. Management/labor are taxed on income. Besides, there is already a 35% fed corp. tax, which ranks as 2nd highest in the world. You say the $456 is meaningless but removing that pittance can be the difference in retaining jobs and not losing them to another state. But then again, what 'corporation' in Mass pays $456? |

Judged: 1 Nailing state employees- It used to be that public employees would receive better benefits as an exchange for taking less pay than what could be made in the private sector. Nowadays, there is wage parity and so the benefits should be similar too. More difficult to get unemployment benefits- 2 pay periods usually means 4 weeks these days. That is a short amount of time to be let go then go on the dole. It costs businesses more money to replace an employee than to retain one, even a 3 week veteran. It is bad business on many levels to can someone after such a short time and should be done only if the employee is untrainable and incompetent, or engaged in malfeasance. Companies would only be abusing themselves. Cuts to state health programs- The federal gov't has taken responsibility for these programs. |

Judged: 1 1 1 No by 2 pay periods what was meant was 2 payroll quarters Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec. To be elgible you would have to be on two of those quarters there are some situations with season industries where this could be abused. |

Judged: 1 This is good news and I am happy to hear it but, after reading the official release I'm not sure how this applies to Deval's job performance. The release states that the majority of the new jobs are in the leisure/hospitality sector, as well as the professional, scientific, and business services sector. I can't recall any legislation or lobbying by the governor to make this happen. Another way to look at it is this: this is the 3rd straight month for job gains in leisure/hosp. It also so happens to coincide with the summer months. Perhaps this is the seasonal employment in which you spoke of. The presser doesnt dig too deep but I guess we will see in the coming months. |
|
Judged: 1 When a person takes a seasonal job, they do so knowing full-well that they will be looking for work again once the season is over. I think it is unfair to make businesses (the overwhelming majority of seasonal employers are small businesses)contribute money for this person to collect when the temporary nature of the job was understood. I support this. |
