are you calling me irresponsible? because my daughter and her friend were 13 & 14 when they were struck and killed by a car while riding ours?? granted, my daughter didn't have a certificate, but she knew the laws and rules that went along with riding. She also knew they are not toys, and it was a priviledge and wasn't daily. Even if they prosecute the parents, let me tell you first hand, they can not take anything from them that they already have lost. Be very careful of who you call irresponsible. You say you watch your 7 year old and she is careful, it takes one second for a terrible accident to happen.

I think the parents have enough "trouble" in dealing with the death of their son.

I totally agree with you. The parents have enough to worry about. I just wanted other parents to know the risks and responsibilities that come with these machines.

EEK, that sounded rude, I did not mean it that way.
that's OK. All I'm saying is that if you read the warnings from the manufacturer MOST say 18 and up. I know my 125 Honda quad did, I got that when I was 7. they are so much fun but they can be dangerous.

you can be the best parent in the world and have something terrible happen in the blink of an eye. I agree the quad was to big for this child to be on alone, BUT that doesn't make his parents irresponsible either.

You did nothing wrong by educateing us on things we did not know.

Is it even legal for a 9 year old to be driving an ATV?!?!? At any rate, my thoughts are with the family.
What do you do when you see a 9 year old illegally operating an ATV, blast it off'n it with a shotgun?

Your kind thinks it's ok for sober people to kill others in negligent "accidents", but if a person has a drink of alcohol and then has an "accident" you scream bloody murder. Most traffic accidents involve completely sober drivers and I think that sober people have the least excuse for being involved in an "accident" and they should pay the same as a drinking driver does when they kill person through negligence.
