i guess up north means different ways for different people; depending on where you live. up north to mean is the upper thumb; i live in the port huron area. UP to us means upper peninsula. i say up north sometimes when we go to ludington but i add western up north,LOL does it really matter? i love the whole state except the city of detroit and its whole menagerie of wayne county. they ruin the whole good part of the state of michigan; southnorth, east and west. what people hear about detroit seems to ruin the whole states reputation. thanks sue

Yoopers (those from the UP= upper peninsula) say up north is the UP or above the bridge ( Mackinac).
Everything else is "under the bridge" and therefore it makes you a troll ( cause trolls live under bridges).
Which makes a lot of sense, LOL!
Hope that helps clear the mystery.
btw -- I think "up north" is everything north of Grayling.

Everybody's Up North is usually a little bit further than those who live South of them.
