I doubt they're going to put races inside bubbles, seperating crowds from the action, but to have spectators standing within 10 feet of a dirt race path with jumps in it, where speeds reach 100mph is noting short of stupid. Stupid for the organizers and the spectators.

And then they go after the driver like he had targeted them. No matter how sad this is, there are still some pretty stupid people in this world.

Twenty five or so years ago I got right in the action during 4WD racing and shot many great photographs with only a few instances of having to duck. I had a great time. I had to sign a release form before each event accepting total responsibility for my own insanity.

I too did photography and know what you mean. I caught on fire one time and didn't even realise it for a couple of minutes. Put the fire out and kept on shooting; got some great shots and didn't even sue the fire department. Oh, and that was without a disclaimer.

The trouble nowadays is that people have been trained to ignore that thing called "self-responsibility ". Or in other words,'I can do what I want, and then blame you'.

Sad, isn't it?

Very sad. I worry about the fool that thinks I’m crazy but they’re not.

You wouldn't have been able to sue the fire department, anyway, as the fire department is not responsible for your safety as an individual. The only way you'd be able to sue the fire department because of a fire, would be if the fire department set you on fire on purpose because of an approved policy that told them to do it.

You could, however, sue the fire chief by name and any firemen by name, if they acted as individuals outside of department policy, but you'd be going after their assets, not those of the city, county, state or federal government.

I once got a small out of court settlement out of a police agency a long time ago, it was a small check but it was nice to have the last word on them, especially when the agency's lawyer stormed out of a deposition hearing after flinging a manila folder at me and proclaiming, "We're not paying you one THIN RED DIME!" Hahahahaha.
