Tragic, yes. My prayers and sympathies to the vicims, families and friends. This particular driver should not be blamed as it could have been any one of the other participants in this race that could have caused this to happen. Iknow that there were certain "rules" that were not enforced such as the spectators being 100 ft away from the track and only on one side of the track and the absence of barriers along the track just to name a few. Accidents can occur to anyone at anytime. Lots of other motor sports events like NHRA drag races, NASCAR, INDY etc... all have saftey measures in place to minimize fatalities in the event of an accident, and they do happen at these events as well, I have seen them with my own two eyes. The drivers and spectators alike know there is a certain amount of risk involved. The individuals that died and the others cannot get a 2nd chance. The question should be; if the rules and saftey measures were in place and strictly enforced could this tragedy have been averted?? YOU decide.

The people that were standing that close to a race track were not thinking about their own safety at all, but I am sure that someone will find someone else to blame and sue for nothing more than an acdcident.

It was a very tragic accident at the California 200 that killed 8 people and my thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends. And through this dark time in off road racing new safety elements will be implemented that will make it safer and enjoyable for the fans. Off road racing has always been more than racing as it has always tried to take care of its own that have been injured in accidents. Fast-Aid is a nonprofit that has is helping the families of those who died or have been injured in this accident. There goal is to ensure the necessary support is in place in sports racing accidents. They do all this work through donations from the off road racing community. If you would like to donate to help those families go to the website at www.fast-aid.org and click on California 200. Thank you!

More like 40 + years. These races have been going on since there was one stop sign on Bear Valley between the 15 and Lucerne......that's over 40 years. There has not been any incident like the one over the weekend. It would be interesting to find out how much a permit is and how much entry fees are for events like this.

BLM claims it will do this big investigation, but when the smoke clears, they always seem to do the same things. They keep giving out these permits not only to the conscientious sponsors, but to the ones who don't follow the written stipulations (rules), and without penalty.

The spectators have become more out of hand in the last ten years.

the promoters need to start doing a better job of cordoning off these pit areas where the racers come through. if they don't there are groups of people out there (and you know what I'm talking about) that will put up such a stink that the BLM will simply shut them down. it's unfortunate but that's the way the world works now especially in Kalifornia.
