What an idiotic and mean thing to say. Should we celebrate your death by saying "that's what you get for wasting electricity by being on your computer so much"?

If I'm electrocuted by my computer, feel free to say whatever you want. It's called freedom of speech. Only a moron goes to auto racing, but that's just my opinion.

We have agreed in the past. Here we disagree. Mr_bill loves machines, especially fast machines.

I have nothing against "fast machines", in fact my car can easily do 120mph if necessary. I just find it rather wasteful use of oil (not to mention egotistical) to race vehicles. Do they really need to do 500 laps in Indy to see who's the best driver? Wouldn't 10 be enough?

Once gas hits $10/gallon this nonsense will likely end.

Technically, you are right; but a long race calls for a different type of driving and stamina than a sprint. A sprint is more of a test of machines than men (and now women.) I clearly remember one race (must be 20 years ago) when Mario Andretti trailed the entire race, and slingshotted into a winning photo finish in the last straight-way. Thrilling! I stood and cheered at home!

Race do entertain millions of peoole, and all form of entertainment are wasteful. Think of the millions of gallons of gasoline wasted driving to baseball, football, basketball, even soccar matches. You don't want to become Mr. Spock.

If gas hits $10.00, the crowds will thin to the real hard-core, but the games will go on. TV will benefit.

Hopefully they'll be banned as a waste of precious natural resources.
