You should all be concerned with your taxes - a no vote may offset the coming tax increase due to loss of prisoners.

People are acting like they are going to have to get a second job to pay what little if any the taxes go up. How about not go eat out once a month, not buy cigarettes or tobacco, or another 4 wheeler. Here's a thought save and it would be like nothing ever happened.

I don't smoke, drink or chew, no 4 wheeler - and I could pay more taxes, but I watch my money and I expect the county to do the same. Many pushing this may only pay two or three hundred per year - I pay much more than that. I am thankful we still have the right to vote as we please.

How about getting someone that can function within a budget, they go to the supervisors every year from what I understand to get more money because they went over budget. I still do not understand why maintenance does not get a higher priority in the spending priorities of this school board. My family has usually worked under a budget and I realize emergencies come up, but this stuff did not happen overnight.

I am proud that our generation learned to manage their money. Something just does not add up to me about the school budget, We paid close to 20M from what I have heard on the last election. Why didn't we wait until this bond was paid off and then request the election. Forty thousand dollars for special elections - now let's hear again how tight the budget is. I don't recall the previous Supt. asking for a bond and things were done a the schools.

I'd submit that the current class of statesmen that are in office, are from your generation..... Money management isn't quite their strong suit. But I get what you're saying.

Until they learn money management, I will vote against everything they come up with. I will vote for new people for office too.

Our prior superintendent did not ask for what was entitled to the schools and now our new super is. The supervisors are not wanting to give what they should to the schools. George County is going down hill with all the backwards people who live here. Storm shelters=supervisors=waste of money. School=education=productive people

I figure you must be a teacher - how do you post on Topix during the day? I certainly think the supervisors waste money too. I guess the supervisors allowed another special election. It seems quite alots was done under MS Massey - we have a new school in the county, many new classrooms, cafeteria additions at one school for sure -

Maybe it's Debbie! LOL I totally agree with you. I will continue to vote NO and to vote out the ones in there now. They have no business sense. I find it highly hypocritical to waste money asking for more money while claiming that you are responsible with said money. We are wasting too much money trying to incorporate the Common Core curriculum. Just teach the kids the way we were taught. They have the math so screwed up now that I have trouble helping my kids with their homework. I can show them how I was taught to do it, but it will be wrong.

You are so right about the teaching - we need a great base in reading and common math. I see people unable to make change on a regular basis. If the old style math was good enough to put folks on the moon, it should be good enough period. All the new "No Child Left Behind and "Common Core" are just the dumbing of America.

Ms Massey long ago in her first election claimed the funds were there, only not used. Then when she won, the funds mysteriously disappeared and she sought more money. Either she lied or didn't know what she was talking about.

Well that would indicate to me that the prior Superintendent did not think she needed to burden the county with money she didn't need. Look, I've seen how this works before, if you're a spender and money is there for the taking, you grab it, but if you're a good money manager, you won't need it. If you manage money well, people will be willing to help you when you truyly need it.

Well said - that is exactly how I see it. I am certainly not anti education, I am just anti big debt and mismanagement.

There is so much wrong with this post. 1-The current super comes from a business background 2-Common Core is mandated by State govt 3-just teach kids the way we were taught BUT when kids are shown how we were taught, it will be wrong. Huh?

For anyone voting on the bond issue, yes or no, I just encourage all to research and learn the facts.

I just don't like her style of business. Yes, I know common core is mandated by the state. I also know that they are paid by the federal government to implement it. So where is that money? If I had to guess, it is in someone's pocket which is why they are begging for money. I don't even understand you last sentence. But I will tell you this. I have helped my child with their homework, and received a note from the teacher saying that it wasn't done in the correct way that she taught, even though the answer was correct. That is ridiculous! Oh, and the way I showed them, it took less than 10 minutes to complete. The way that the teacher taught it, took almost 30. I can assure you that I HAVE researched all about common core and it is NOT good for the schools.
