There needs to be a movie theater in George County. There would be a place for the kids to go and give them something different to do. The taxes from it could go to the county to possibly help improve long overdue needs. Example I would first think of would be the schools in the county. If anyone agrees and knows of anyway this can be done please, if nothing else, do it for the kids. Thank you.

The lady that runs Pockets diner told me that she had approached the aldermen and mayor about doing that in the old Wal-Mart building, but that they struck it down. They claimed it would cause too much trouble; i.e., drugs, fights, promiscuity, etc. among young people.

Call or write you alderman/ supervisor and ask why we don't have one.

i believe a movie theater in george county would be a bad investment. too many ppl wait for dvd's now. the kids have the skate factory, and pockets pool hall. the insurance alone on a movoie theater would be extremely high. a bowling alley would be more effective than a movie theater, but there again, insurance is a problem.

the idea of a bowling alley is not a bad idea, but i feel that it would be too expensive to keep going to as well as it could also be boring too quick because it would be the same thing time and time again, with a movie theater at least it would show different movies and the kids would enjoy it, and that is what it is, for is somewhere that the kids could go to that would keep their interest, to have them want to go that hasn't been here for the past decades. also a movie theater does cost more than renting, and that is true, but the reason for it shows a different atmosphere and when this does happen, it will be worth the time to go there, because it is either go to a local spot or drive out of the county and put the money in some other county instead of our own.

Why ask the Alderman or Mayor? Why call or write you alderman/ supervisor and ask why we don't have one? Same reason you don't call them asking for a Ruth Chris Steak House, it's just business

Good, it is important because they're the ones to approve the building permit and the privilege license. No good graces=no operation.

Lucedale needs to "think out of the box." The reason the crime rate, unwed parent rate, and drug abuse rate is so high here is because there is nothing for young people to do here to relax people.

Yes, we need a movie house, a bowling ally, and game room for our community. We also need a nice restaurant.

Mobile and Biloxi are getting our business, because the people that run our city don’t think we have money to spend. Guess what, there are a lot of wealthy people in Lucedale!

I use to live there in Lucedale about 6 years ago and moved up here in Rock Hill,SC where they have a movie theater, couple bowling alleys, and skating and I have never heard of any trouble from them places in the news. They are doing pretty good right now with the economy as it is. It would also provide more jobs and more taxes for the county too. If there is any problems that come up with fights or whatever at them, you can always hire a security person. Its bad if you have to go to Mobile or Pascagoula or wherever to go have some real fun.Keep the fun in Lucedale.

I agree with you. There are too many churches with uneducated ministers that brainwash their congregation into keeping Lucedale in the dark ages. It was a group of Licedale ministers that called a secret meeting and agreed to bully their flock into blocking the passage of alcohol by the drink in the city. They whinned and grinned and went on a "you will burn in hell if you take a drink" compaign until it brainwashed people to vote no liquor. The ministers controlled the city and won the battle this time.

Wiggins has a bowling alley and for the frist six mths. all the kids did was hang out and not spend any money there the owners had to hire off duty police to run off the people who where not spending money on food games or bowling it was turning into a club and the owners didn't want that so if a bowling alley was to open in lucedale I see the same problem happening here so the owners will need to get a handle on it from the start or they will go broke

With the right management that shouldn't be a problem. Hire an off-duty cop and place "no loitering" signs around the property. As long as the owners do as you say from the start, the ones who tend to just hang out will find somewhere else to ply their trade.

Once again just the obvious truth. no requests for a prermit or no request for licence = no movie house. Don't get me wrong a theater would be nice and no Mayor or any alderman would say no to it. Heck they would drive them around town and invite them over to dinner, or they should. That my friend is how you draw new business.
Good one

Half the churches gone? What would be the purpose? How would you accomplish this?

The main reason that I have started any of this was for the kids to have somewhere different to go to, that would help keep them out of trouble and have something different to keep them interested. This is for the kids. It's not to be against the churches, or anything else that would be negative. Remember people this is for the kids, so let's stay focused on what the positive difference is, not pointing out blame. Pointing fingers does nothing right. I want to see us work as a team to do something progressive for others, and not worry about the negative and find a way to get this moving forward. If you want to make a difference, help make the movie theater happen.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Virgo

Be careful you don't wind up doing someone else's work today, Virgo. There are all sorts of little tricks to persuade you to take pity on them, from pretending to be ill to making such a hash of everything that you can't bear to watch for a moment longer. Then you are likely to be asked to put in some overtime, at the expense of your social life. Grr.
