George County Tax Office

I wish I knew how to handle my problem with the George County Tax Office in Lucedale. It started with a man at my front door with a check for 187.00. I thought I may have won a small lottery. This was weird because that is how much my estimated taxes were on my property (EVEN VERIFIED THIS WITH THE TAX OFFICE BEFORE PURCHASING THE HOUSE). He explained to me that I had paid the taxes on his property next door for the previous year (KEEP IN MIND THAT I DID NOT EVEN OWN THIS PROPERTY AT THIS TIME). He explained also how our lots are mixed up and I should contact the Tab Mapping Company and the tax office to get this fixed. Well we did contact them and now find out our taxes are not $187.00 a year as (REMEMBER) verified by the tax office. We find out that it is over $860 a year. Now that is not even the problem really. Here is the kicker. The taxes were mixed up for the previous year also. Remember that said I did not even own the house the previous year. Well you guessed it. THEY EXPECT ME TO PAY FOR THE PREVIOUS YEAR TOO AND I DIDN'T EVEN OWN THE PROPERTY. Would this not be between them and the Map company and should admit they both are at fault? If I could get some advice besides getting a lawyer? I'll be glad whan we get a responsible tax assessor that can help residents of George County.

good luck lucedale is like know other place they have there own little ways here all i can tell you is do not get a lawyer from lucedale you will lose i see it every day good luck

We sold some land and a house about 3 years ago there in George County and they goofed our taxes and land up too.Took us nearly 3 years to get it straighten up....Ihope. Need to find someone who knows what they are doing and not just there for a pay check.

The George County tax office just wants your money twice nothing new there, buying or selling a car, you both pay the sales tax, it's standard.
