There is serious theft in the schools and the teachers can do nothing about it. Bunch of kids are finding their book bags gone thru and supplies missing. Even with names on them, they are stolen. See your principal or school board members or write a letter to the editor. Could be YOUR kids stealing.

There has always been theft. You forgot to mention the drugs, Dangerous walkways, and schools with no water drinking fountains for the students. I won't even start about them placing diet drinks in the high school for the students to buy.

What school(s) have no water for the kids? 2-What is your problem with diet drinks being sold? 3-What school(s) has dangerous walkways and what makes them dangerous? 4-Please discuss your knowledge of GCSD problem with drug usage and offer possible solutions. Thanks!

I don't know about any of these things myself Ironman, but I do know that diet drinks should not be sold in school - I thought soft drinks were taken out of schools. Artificial sweeter may have some real problems and we should not expose children to them.

The school by sak a pak has no drinking fountains for the children. It has been proven that diet drinks are more unhealthy than reg drinks due to the sweetener substitute. L,C, Hatcher had a sidewalk that part of it had risen and was an extreme tripping hazard. There is no real solution to completely keep drugs out of schools but running a dog through the high school more than every other month, un announced would be a start. I read nowhere where the plans for the money they received will be used to resolve these issues,

Theft, drugs, who knows what else? Time to put cameras in each room or at least one where the kids put their stuff. They are cheap enough now.

That is a good idea Scoop - there should be cameras every where in the school, it would stop lots of things from happening.

Cameras in every room? I agree 100% with that. That could solve MANY problems.

I'd encourage anyone to report any problems like the sidewalk and water fountains to the specific school. I'm sure they know about them already but community interests in those situations always gets the ball rolling faster when it comes to getting them fixed. The diet drink vs regular soda thing...I've heard arguments from both sides. I do know the state won't let public schools sell regular sodas. I'd think the kids like the new diet choices, though.

My grand children are not allowed to drink diet colas, I think the school should just put natural juice drinks in the machines - unsweetened apple juice is great and much better for you.

Cip, what's wrong with you, trying to give the kids something that is good for them? lol It seems this would just be an automatic decision, the proper thought process for good professional school administration decisions, "what is best for kids" DUH!!

Where is Mrs Obama and her healthy food - I am pretty shocked at diet sodas in school - why not just a cool bottle of water if calories are the problem. So much for the old folks and our thinking -

Really, y'all are complaining about diet sodas. I think there are probably more pressing issues than soda.

Does not seem quite fair, but guess what, they are going to raise your taxes on top of that. I'm just not sure things are done to each child's best interest sometimes. You've got extra and your mom will buy more, thanks.

Yes, lets sock it to the working folks - wonder if they give free drinks to the kids with no money. Pretty soon we will have to send extra money so all kids can get a soft drink.
