If Halloween falls on a Religious night ( church ) then it is changed to the " day before " . I wasn't born & raised here but that's what I've been told .:))

some of the churches do "trunk and treat" in the park or at their church so that the children can give as well as receive. The can goods go to food banks. This could be considered a good thing, because churches aren't out to 'stop' the fun for children, but to work around it. That's why most churches have a funfest day in the place of halloween parties also.

If churches wanted to "work around" Halloween maybe they should have their junk in the trunk party on another day. Halloween has always been October 31, screw the self-serving churches, this is the only holiday just for children and the churches want to screw that up for everyone. My friend in Georgia said some churches are not having church that night so the children can celebrate with their friends and family. Maybe our churches are greedy and over controlling.

I guess you can do what you want to do - if you don't like Church don't go. Go to Mobile - my question is - what difference does it make? We celebrate Christmas many years on a day other than the 25th and Thanksgiving too. The date on the calendar is not that important - kids sure don't care.

You obviously haven't participated in any Trunk or Treat activities. The CITY of Lucedale offers this in the park, a safe place. The churches offer this as a choice, participate or don't. The churches don't demand any particular date for trick or treat. As it happens, sometimes it falls on a Wednesday night, and when it does they work 'with it' not against it. How is that self-serving? How is that controling? I fail to see how any church has ever screwed up halloween for anyone. If any church member wants to go out on that night, it makes no difference to anybody. Why don't you call city hall and complain to them that your big celebration was totally destroyed by all the self-serving who-haws. See how hard they laugh.
How do you figure that Halloween is the only fun day for kids, or only for kids? Ever heard of Easter or Christmas, oh wait, you'd probably say those are christian holidays. Maybe it used to be, but churches have had to 'work around' those too. Santa Claus, easter eggs, bunny rabbits, right up there with your witches, bats, and goblins.
I suggest you go trick or treating tomorrow night on the proper night of the 31st, it's right there on the callendar. You might not get shot.

How come they didn't do the trunk or treat tonight in the park??? All of the kids showed up and it was posted online nothing :( You would think if they post things like this they would at least set it up right!

Christmas and Thanksgiving celebrations are sometimes taking place on days other than the official calendar dates? When did this start happening? Why didn't anyone tell me?

We always celebrate it on a day near the holiday that we can all get together. A number on a calendar is not the holiday to me, it is family that matters most.

I am talking about at my house, my family is not stuck on a certain day. My children have in-laws to visit, so we celebrate Christmas when we can all be together. I saw on the news that New Jersey has moved Halloween because of the storm.

That's understandable. But for a city to do it solely based upon religious beliefs/inconvenience then it's not exactly a separation of church and state. Personal decision is one thing, for a government to change things because they are pressured from the local religious groups...then that's another.

If you think it matters to the children, then take it up with the mayor. If people go to Church and are not home to give out candy, then I don't see how that will benefit the kids.

Just part of Thr local government desire for total authority over our little society. I had 10 trick or treaters last night and so far two tonight. Maybe Halloween is two nights.
