Hundreds react to accidental death of Perry County K-9
PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM)-

The accidental death of the Perry County K-9 dog who died after being locked in his handler's patrol car overnight has many people calling for his job.

About three weeks ago, Napo, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, was found dead in the patrol car. His handler, Steve Verret, had apparently forgot the dog was in the vehicle.
Reaction from around the state from animal advocates and others has been one of shock and anger.

This was not an "accident". At best it was neglect and animal abuse...this man should be treated just like anyone else that abuses an animal.

Regardless of whether or not it would have died later naturally or not, it should not have been left in the car. Now maybe they will investigate the one in George county.

If somebody kills or harms a K9 they will go to jail, Just like if it was an officer of the law right? So shouldn't the deputy Be charged with killin a fellow officer?

They never did determine the cause of death and no necropsy was done. During Tony Keels' time as sheriff.

It appears that we have all forgotten just how human we are from time to time and as I nor anyone of you know the entire story behind the horrible circumstances that lead to this travesty, we should seek the truth before moving to judgment. I can say there are many things that could have happens and all are the handlers fault. But until you walk in his shoes you don't know if you might have made the same tragic mistake. These animals become part of the handlers family as well as part of the community in which they serve. There is no amount of judgment you can have that will be near what this officer is putting himself through. Imagine these animals are liken to your own children and then step back and ask yourself have I ever did anything careless, from improperly placing a car seat to simply speeding, while your children or loved ones were in a vehicle under your control. If you have judges this man before looking at yourself SHAME ON YOU! I simply pray for this officer, his family, the department, and the community who are suffering this tragic loss..

Its still negligence and stupidity. After all that time, can you really trust him to have your back?
