Unless I am reading it wrong it seems our school officials want to raise our taxes - read your George County Times today and see what you think.

Are you kidding me? This should show all of the people that voted this bond in, what kind of administration you have that is running your schools. You know they had to know they were going to do this when they were promoting that nobody was going to see a tax hike for the bond. Do you suppose they forgot to tell you they were going after this little tax boost, oops must have forgot, you know they wouldn't have done this sneaky money grabbing trick on purpose. Shameful!!!!

It is shameful, but election time will come again and I will not forget. I cannot stand dishonest folks - now to all you people that said "we will have not tax increase" what do you say now. Looks like they pulled one over doesn't it.

The school system is asking for a property tax increase - after all the talk about no tax increase just vote on this bond. You can call this nothing but under handed - if I had supported their bond, I would be even more upset.

As ran in the paper.... NOTICE OF PROPOSED AD VALOREM TAX EFFORT GEORGE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT The George County School District will hold a public hearing on it's proposed school district budget for fiscal year 2014 on June 24,2013 at 5:00 pm at Central Services. At this meeting, a proposed ad valorem tax effort will be concidered. it foes on to say that they are now operating with projected total budget revenue of $30,136,625. Of that 15.65% or $4,717,334 is obtained through ad valorem taxes. For next year the proposedbudget has total projected revenue of %30,843,888. Of that amount 16.23% or $5,006,027 is proposed to be through a total ad valorem tax levy. For the next fiscal year, the proposed increase in ad valorem tax effort by George County School District may result in an increase in the ad valorem tax millage rate. Ad valorem taxes are paid on homes, auto tags, business fixtures and equipment and rental real property. Any citizen is invited to attend the hearing and will be allowed to speak so they can act like they are listening and care.

This new budget certainly was a known factor when they were after bond money "Promising" taxes were not going to go up. They deliberately kept this from the voting citizens in order to get it passed and as far as the George County Times they were either bamboozled or they are part of the deception which makes the whole bunch, underhanded sneaks not to be trusted. They could have published this intention of a tax increase before the bond was passed!!! Just my opinion.

That is my opinion too "woderin" If I had been on Topix, Facebook, the George County Times or any where else trying to convince the citizens to vote for the bond and there will be no tax increase, I would call the school board and let them know "we were snookered" - shame shame on you Ms Harrel for letting your supporters down. It is a sad shame when we cannot trust our local government - sounds like Washington to me.

You can't use bond issue money to run the general budget and you can't use the general budget to build new buildings. The school board asks for an tax increase to cover the short fall between existing budget and projected income from tax revenue. The bond issue was paid for by a new issue of the existing bond on which the high school was built so resulted in no new increase in taxes. The school board asks for increases in taxes every year since a large share of people don't pay taxes. Yes I am talking to all you who still have out of state tags and have lived in the county for years. Maybe to for go a increase for property owners we should add a sur charge on renters?

If you know someone running an out of state tag report them. I do not know anyone myself. We all know it takes money to run the schools, but this was done under handed - her supporters that promised everyone no tax increase have been stabbed in the back. She knew this was coming up, but did not want to tell the voters. When you do not have integrity, you have nothing.

Ad valorem taxes are paid on homes, auto tags, business fixtures and equipment and rental real property. The renters will feel trhe impact, Surely rent will have to be raised. You are right, Bond money must be used on what it is intended and asked for, The School board asks for a ad valorem tax increase every year.

The supervisors cannot deny them the tax increase by law they are required to approve it - my beef is - all we could hear is no tax increase, well here it comes.

So, I've read the paper now and got some answers. And, sorry to poop on all those who think they have an argument about the school bond causing the taxes to increase. Kilt just explained it very well concerning requests made annually. Why now, you complaining ask? Some of you think, since the timing is the way it is, what was in the paper must be the cause of the bond issue, right? No. The fiscal year for our school district is July through June. Budget requests are made each year (as Kilt stated) around this time in order to set numbers for the new fiscal year which begins in July. What was in the GC Times would have been in the GC Times, as is, even if the bond issue hadn't existed. There is no link between the two. You're welcome for the info. All of you could actually do like I do and call or go see people that have answers to your questions. You'd probably feel better about things. Otherwise, carry on with your complaints. Good day.

Well it would seem to to me it is just a juggling of the terminologies. When you need Bond money in large amounts for repairs and upgrades it would seem that these normal maintenance programs should be funded and implemented by the general budget, but if negligence in this area becomes a danger to the students, then aha, ask for BOND MONEY to do repairs and upgrades. Just semantics as I see it.

I'm just curious. Did you pick the name Decon, as in rat poison, on purpose, or do you not know how to spell Deacon?
