I'm concerned about these so-called "Common Core Standards" being slipped in on us without a debate. If I understand this correctly, the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT will set the standards of what our kids are taught in school. Oh sure, they are all saying, "Oh no, it won't affect curriculum!" Yeah, sure, and the IRS randomly chooses who to audit. I don't want the Feds using our schools to teach our kids their moral (or should I say immoral) and anti-Christian values. I think we need to hang on to our values as long as we are able to fight for them. Many Northerners think they are so much smarter than we are in the South. They are so enlightened and educated that they don't even believe in Jehovah God any more, if they ever did. However, they say Islam is a "wonderful" and "peaceful" religion. If my Christian faith makes me ignorant, then let me always be ignorant. Common Core sounds fishy to me. Am I wrong?

No, you are not. The ones writing this curriculum are evil. And our stupid governors jumped on it because they wanted the money that comes with it. How in the world do you get to be governor without learning that if someone has to pay you to take it, then it probably isn't a good thing?!

Not sure I understand the arguments. Thought Common Core had to do with subject matter only. This is what I looked at, if you looked at something different please let me know so I can look at it too.

I have been reading a little about the Common Core and a few sites are saying it is part of the UN trying to make us all one world, I personally don't like that. Might want to look at the Republic Magazine.com . What ever happened to common sense and teaching the three "R's" it seems to me the more we try to change our teaching methods the worse it gets. Our government is taking over our insurance, our children, what is next.

This is probably one of the simplest explanations that I have found. You must understand that the page that you site is the page that is run by the CC people. Of course they are going to make it sound like the best thing since sliced bread. I have researched many pages for and against it. I have come to the conclusion that it is NOT a good thing. Do some more research. Research the Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan. This is being pushed by people who make liberals look sane and conservative! They know that the only way they can get their feet in the door is to do a stealth move like this. They push it as making everyone equal and all the rest of the liberal talking points, and many people buy it hook, line, and sinker.

You know the shame of reading any right wing or left wing magazines, they all have an agenda. I prefer to read the actual information of Common Core itself and make my own decision based on what 45 Governors both Republican and Democrat decided would be a good criteria for students, not saying I agree or disagree, but being an independent, I trust neither Republican or Democratic oriented magazines. I have to satisfy my own mind on the material I read. Just my opinion.

The governors had not even seen the curriculum so they couldn't judge either way. They just wanted the money that the feds were offering to sign up for it.

I'm sorry, but you have to admit this is a little on the right wing side and is based more on the opinion of the writer instead of on the CC material and what its intentions were set up to do, I have not read enough yet to agree or disagree, but I do have an objective outlook. Just my opinion.

My child, who is finishing kindergarten, is able to to 3 step math problems ( 3+4-2= 5) and he is able to read without assistance.
This excites me. I'm ready to see a higher standard set for our children! Why would you not want the same?
Propoganda has always been fed to Americans.(Watch the news, or read the paper) I think it is high time we push our children to be smarter and better than us.
Change is coming folks. It's time to get with the program or get left behind,

I can believe that - like Obamacare "Let's just pass it so we can find out what is in it". I will be getting some information directly from a person in another State that will be implementing it. Hopefully it will clear up some things.

I find it a little hard to believe that the states Dept. Of Education or someone did not examine CC before signing up for it, if they did then remember who they are come next election. How much is each state getting, must be an exorbitant amount just to sign the bottom line on something that is going to change the whole education system without fully being aware of what it is. Come on 45 Governors signed this without knowing, I find that hard to believe that all of these people are that stupid.

It does sound stupid, but remember that Obamacare was passed without being read. I wonder how the States that did not accept it will make it financially - the States do get mega federal bucks.

LOL, I agree, but you have to remember that Obamacare was not read by Congress, Congressman and Senators have never showed enough ambition to read more than two or three pages of anything the way they pass crap, most of that bunch are just lazy or something.

You know the average person would not understand the language in a lots of what is passed anyway. Our government is in a mess from the top down, we have slid so far until I do not know what it will take to pick us back up. I don't worry about myself, just my grandchildren.

This was done under Barbour. Google and find out how many states are trying to repeal it now.

Well Barbour, was a real jewel - I can't remember how many criminals he released.

Then you'll be SORELY disappointed as your child gets older. Kindergarten is the ONLY grade that is advanced I'm common core. The rest are DUMBED DOWN, severely. "Change is coming"... you do know that that's what they said prior to the Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, etc. Change is not always good and how naive for you to believe that it is.

LOL, don't hold back tell us how you really feel, so 52% of America is stupid? HMMM so voting for Romney was a better choice? Give me somebody like Christy and I may vote with the smart people, lol. I'm independent and proud of it. I don't listen to any of the garbage from either party I listen to the person that makes the most sense at the time and Romney was not that person, he was fake, if he would have just been himself he may have won.

I am libertarian and I DID NOT like Romney. Chris Christie has proven that he really isn't all that he was cracked up to be either. But I will say one thing about Romney. He has never claimed to be a socialist!
