Deen's lawyer has called the allegations false.
"Contrary to media reports, Ms. Deen does not condone or find the use of racial epithets acceptable," her lawyer, Bill Franklin said. "She is looking forward to her day in court." The language in question was revealed recently as part of a deposition of Deen by Jackson's lawyers in May.

The Food Network will not renew celebrity chef Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of the month, a Food Network spokesperson told CNN on Friday.

Celebrity chef Paula Deen apologized Friday for "the wrong that I've done," a move that follows revelations this week that she admitted to using a racial epithet in the past.

"I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong that I've done," Deen said in the video statement. "I want to learn and grow from this. Inappropriate and hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable. I've made plenty of mistakes along the way but I beg you, my children, my team, my fans, my partners, I beg for your forgiveness."

Deen's video statement followed reports that she acknowledged in a lawsuit deposition to using the "N word," but denied telling racial jokes.

Its been said that's she's being judged for a word she used in 1986 when she was robbed at gunpoint. If true, this would have been quite traumatizing.

Paula Deen is Southerner that has used racial slurs same as most everyone else in this nation. Black people use them too - People are just not perfect, only difference is people that have money and fame are just waiting to get caught. I see she has been fired from Food Network. I personally did not like her filthy language - she is worth millions, but will have to retire from the spotlight now - the restaurant will close and her boys will be off TV too. Paula will not starve to death for lack of money, but the fame is gone.

I think it is a shame that someone gets punished for uttering what is today politically correct. There are so many different things that people find disrespectful in today's world, but 27 years ago were not thought about twice. We are talking about a word causing them to loose their livelihood, give me a brake. For instance,I do not understand all of the negativism that some people put out about hating soldiers and "God Hates You" and on and on by certain churches, but they have a freedom of speech for anything they say. I think it is showing cowardliness to fall in line against somebody like Paula Dean for something she SAID 27 or so years ago, I just don't get it. Reminds me of the Chick Filet stance, they have a right to freedom of speech, no matter how distasteful you think it is. Just my opinion.

We see news people and sports reporters lose their jobs all the time over one misquote - our very own Trent Lott lost his job over one simple statement. White folks don't have freedom of speech any more. Not one company she represents will have the guts to keep her.
maybe?

I agree with everything except the Trent Lott business. He was not a private citizen. Comparing apples to oranges.

He was an elected official, but why can't he have a personal opinion. I cannot think of the black congress woman's name that is always saying crazy things, yet she never even gets a slap on the wrist. I just think we should all be able to say what we think.

Well...there was the time she stood on the floor of the house discussing how North and South Vietnam are living peacefully side by side, even though there hasn't been both a North and South Vietnam since Gerald Ford was President.

Even though so many turn a blind eye to it, Racism IS ALIVE today, more than it has ever been. Big deal, Ms Paula said a 'bad word'. If you could put MLK or Jesse Jackson under oath as to whether they have said the words "cracker, honkey, or whitey"... What do you think they would say? If they said that they haven't, we all know better. But if they admit to it, would you treat them in the same manner that you are treating Ms Paula Deen?? I don't think so. Because "Racism" in America today is a double-standard. Its okay for the black community to say the N word or any other words they wish to. But oh no, a white person can't disgrace another race. But the black's can. Why?? There is NOT a person on God's green earth that has never said a racial slur...... Get over it, get past it. Let the past stay there. But if the black community wants to stay stirred up about the N word, go turn on a music channel and you will hear black musicians singing it all day long...... If it is a word that is NOT to be used, then don't use it at all...... Thank you, have a good day.
