Whether you’re moving across town or across the country, moving is a big job. Planning and organization can make your move easier. Here are a few tips to help get your life and your possessions ready for an exciting new chapter in your life.

Getting Ready for the Move

 Make lists of things to do and things you’ll need.
 If you’re using a moving company, call early to get quotes and secure a moving date.
 Stop by your local Post Office or go online to to fill out a change of address. Do this a few weeks prior to your move date.
 If moving out of the area, make sure you have all of your medical and prescription information handy.
 Contact credit card companies, your bank, newspaper/magazines subscriptions and Insurance Providers.
 Keep a list of service and utility companies easily accessible to make shutting off or transferring simpler.

Packing Tips

 If you’re packing yourself, have plenty off supplies – boxes, tape, markers, packing paper to wrap breakables, etc. Have more than you think you’ll need.
 Designate a color for each room and put a colored sticker on each box and on the door to each room so the movers know where each box belongs
 Pack as much as possible in advance such as off-season clothes, seldom used kitchen supplies, extra towels and sheets.
 Use luggage and duffle bags to pack
 Have extra laundry baskets available. They’re easy to pack, you can see what’s in them and they’re reusable.
 Assign everyone in your family a “personal” storage tote for the items they will need right away in the new home
 Pack your important papers together and carry them with you in the car or on the plane.
 Moving is the perfect time to sort through your belongings and decide which items you don’t need or want anymore. Have a garage sale, donate to a charity or give as gifts to your friends.

Moving probably isn’t the most fun you've ever had, but if you plan ahead it will go a lot smoother. And visualizing your new home in Vintage Township will certainly keep you motivated to get the job done!
