Judged: 1 You are about as wrong and one can get. I remember the shooting at Dunbar High School in 1971. Yes, it did cause an up roar. Yes, there was an armored police vehicle patroling the streets on the east side of town. In fact, I saw the the armored vehicle as it passed Mae Simmons Park on East 24th Street. My sister was a witness to the shooting and was interviewed by the Lubbock Police Dept. There were threats made on my sister's life if she testified again the white kid. I graduated from DHS. It was an awful thing that happened and about the only shooting that I ever hear at that Dunbar High School. Austin, TX |

Judged: 1 The "riots" resulted in a curfew that was only enforced in the East Lubbock community. I attended Estacado at the time of the shooting and I hated that it happened, but I really hated that it happened at Dunbar because it was a great school and represented a great community. I have tried to find published accounts of the tragedy, but have found nothing except a book by Mrs. Katie Parks entitled "Remember When? A History of African Americans in Lubbock, Texas." Mrs. Parks' book is a remarkable record of life in Lubbock. |

this was the results of stupid judges and legislators. I was also there, Jeff rode to school with me sometimes till the shooting the off to private school because of death threats. This was so not needed people should be free. Not totally controlled in every aspect of life.

Records show he was in TDC from '73-'76 for Homicide with Malice, my guess would be the "private school" was actually juvinile detention until he turned 18

Notice how rioting is the one thing that blacks are really good at? Wow!! I guess decades and decades of Affirmative Action is working (i.e., take the current riots in Los Angeles)!

I agree with what is said in this post, however, it was definitely 1971, not 1970. I know that because I was on a date with my boyfriend of that time, which was after my daughter was born in January of 1971. There was a big football rivalry between Lubbock High and another school on that Friday. The curfew was citywide for anyone under 18 and it commenced at sundown. We were to be allowed to drive to Lowry Field for the game and home from there. We thought we were so smart and went out driving south of town. We were pulled over by a state trooper and arrested for violating curfew. I was 16 at the time.
