Hi everyone. Been looking to move to Lubbock from NY. We need to begin homeschooling soon. NY does not allow this. Dallas and Houston seem expensive. And not very appealing. Austin is very nice, but seems to be the most expensive city in Texas!

I immediately took a liking to Lubbock, visa google street view. Some trees and greenery. Places to walk and go to. Super Wal*Mart. Low crime. Most importantly, cheap rent. Though it does seem a bit bleak, dry, and dusty. I hear the dust storms are apocalyptic? The heat is a nightmare? Is it true the people driver very dangerously? How much is electricity there? For air conditioning?

Where we live this can be difficult. There is snow 6 months a year that forbids outside expeditions. In the summer, the traffic is a nightmare. People will run over and kill a family with a baby stroller before they slow down for one second. People everywhere are rude and have a bad attitude. Even if they like you! Our heating bill is often $300 a month and gets shut off for failure to pay.

We are a disabled family and live on very little. Not scumbags or bums. My wife is an electron microscope engineer from Japan and I'm a semi-retired Pharmacology and Law professor(yes, both!) We are simple and don't really do much. We live on a simplicity on par with my wife's native Japan.

Just looking for a quiet, small area, that is big enough to have amenities. We like to go for walks, sit in a park with a snack, go to the library, buy groceries, and go home and relax. Very boring, simple people.

Do you think Lubbock would be safe and relaxing enough for a simple family? Thank you for your replies!

You will love this town. Very boring, dull, and get old fast. My wife and I have been here for a year and we are going to move out as soon as we can. If you move down here you will be assumed by Tech and that all that they care about down here and if you try to watch the news prepare for 10 minutes of new follow by tech sport news for the rest. This place is a joke.
