I just read in the Rants & Raves section of Craigslist a question about the ghost named "Tug Hill Annie" and I always thought it was "Tug Hill Mary." Anyone have any further info on this?? Believe it on not I did find and article mentioning this on the internet at:http://www.strangehappening s.org/New-York-Hauntings.htm Just wondering if anyone had ever heard any rumors about this. I have heard stories about her such as three people were on Rt. 177 at night and they picked up a female who was walking down the side of the road, the front seat passenger climbed in the back and let the female set up front, when the driver turned to speak to her she had disappeared and was sitting between the two backseat passengers, LOL!! My dad was a lifelong resident of Lowville except the times when he was away to college and in Germany in the Army, but he always said it was a bunch of hogwash. Just curious who has what to say about this??
just my opinion

Barnes Corners - Tug Hill - On Rt. 177 a woman has been seen walking along the road, only to disappear in the rearview mirror. Other times she has been seen headless along the side of the road. The story goes that her and her baby were in a car accident, where she was killed. Somebody stopped to help and the baby was saved. She walks up and down the road searching for her missing baby.

I just found this searching the internet for Haunted places in NY. I too have heard there is an area near barnes corners that a ghost has been seen. Can't remember too much more about it.

It's on RT 177 past the deer farm...It sits back a little on the right side. I believe there is a road nearby called the McDonald road. somewhere in that area before you get to Barnes Corners. Hope it helps some...

Maple ridge cemetary on Keener Hill Rd off West Rd Lowville. That is one cemetary that is haunted. Many in Lowville will tell you. Actually right about this time of year you can witness for yourself an orange glow coming from there where years ago the church abandoned had burnt down, but more than that go there now (this week) halloween week and weird, unexplained things happen for no reason. Example: A bbunch of us some drinking, myself dead sober and some along for the ride went there back in 2003 as we had heard others taling and saying they would never go there again. Curiosity got the best of some of us and we went up in 4 car loads. We walked through the dark cemetary about 12:30 am and you do we saw shadows, heard unexplained sounds and even one guy began to run out to the gate and fell flat down backwards (stated he ran into something like a wall) when we flashed the flashlight to see what he tripped over or ran into there was nothing but there was in that one spot a cold chillin presence that you felt someone or something was right there next to you. We left to say the least. Afew that were with us stated how the last time they went up there same type things happened and when leaving down the road 2 of the vehicles headlights just went out, stopped working for no reason. I am a very sane person who is very scepticale about paranormal but I cant deny what 13 of us saw and heard that night. I wish I had been drinking or drugged that night at least I could believe it was in my head.

I was told that Tug Hill Annie is an old women driving a Hoverround, that attempts to run your toes over in the fog. You can see her coming by the dim headlight on the front of her scooter. If you are in the area where she is seen, it would be prudent to wear steel-toe boots.

I truly believe I saw this female ghost in 1983 while riding a school bus. My modified basketball team was coming back from a Sandy Creek game and our bus driver was Leonard Allen. It was in January and the snow banks were extremly high. All of the sudden this old woman in a night gown appeared in the middle of the road. Our bus driver slammed to a stop and all of us eventually screamed when we saw what was there. It took our coaches a few seconds to figure out what or who it was. Our driver then started honking the horn at her and she slowly drifted to the side of the road and just stared at us as we drove away. When we got going, our driver called it into the bus garage. From what I recall, the garage checked with the police to see if there were any missing persons in the area. None were reported. You be the judge! I was and am still scared to death to drive home on 177 at night and it's been almost 25 years!

OMG that is SOOOOO freaky!!! I used to work in Syracuse and had to drive that all alone at night several times a week. One night it was snowing and the wind was blowing really bad.. I had to stop and clear off my windshield wipers... I don't think I've ever been so scared lol. Nothing happened, but with all the stories up there I still was scared to death. Nope, have never seen anything myself but have heard countless stories and I'm still waiting... would probably have a heart attack!!!
