There were 132 down there tonight and yes i counted .... four adults...and one paid worker. The other one stayed and volunteered to keep order on the ice because the village won't pay them enough to have two people there. Very sad ...but thanks to them my family had a great time tonight and there was no issues
This is sad...about the only thing our kids have to do in Lowville and we don't pay enough taxes to have the rink properly surpivised...come on board members, what are your priorities?

Skating at the rink is free, go to any other rink and you will pay to skate and rent skates. It would be wonderful to have more workers there, but like most businesses these days, funds are limited. There will always be the kids who sneak out to smoke, drink and do drugs. This is nothing new. When I was a teenager growing up kids did the same thing. Not just the ice rink, it happened wherever kids were, football games, basketball games, dances. I could go on with the list. I do agree that kids are less respectful than when I was growing up. If kids are out of control or not following the rules, they should be asked to leave. If they refuse then maybe a call to the police would be warranted. I haven't heard why Janet isn't there any more. For one reason or another she is not. It is time to move on. If you have suggestions for the new management, let them know. I'm sure Donna would also be open to suggestions. The reason the village has the rink is so the kids and there families have an inexpensive place to go and can enjoy themselves. My kids always had a good time there over the years. They learned to skate, play hockey, became team members, made a lot of lifelong friendships and we grew as a family there. Please take advantage of one of the free forms of entertainment that we still have, make it a positive experience. My adult children and I have many fond memories of the rink. Thank you to the Village, Janet, the Hockey Association and so many of the kids that grew up with mine. I hope this tradition can continue for years to come.

Thank you for a voice of reason. This stuff has always been around. Some parents actually watch their children, while others just drop them off and hope someone will watch them. There should be better supervision. And whoever it was that said we pay enough in taxes to be able to get some supervision here...I agree. Come on Lowville, if Boonville can get it together, so can we!

Very disappointing to hear that noone has anything good to say about a place that takes 100's of volunteer hrs. To set up and tear down and it is done by the same 5-10 people every year. No place is going to be perfect and no matter what you do u will have disrespectful teenagers some where. Sad to say it all starts from poor parenting and from the amount of people who drop kids by the carloads all day. It would help if 2 - 3 people could run the place at one time if all the people complaining want to come to the rink and volunteer then it would be a safer place for children and families. which is what the hockey board is trying to do.
Thank you

Facts are the village pays for rink attendants and the money did nor change at all! Another fact! No one said she pocketed money that wasn't hers the change was now the hockey board buys all snacks and food and the money goes back to the kids and the rink. Stop listening to false stories being spread.

If you know so much then why is Janet not there? And why would they hire a "kid" to supervise kids?

She was not fired from the position she quite. I was brought up that you are to respect all so it doesn't matter if someone is close to your age younger or older.

1. Kids are not raised as us older generation they have no respect. 2 I was there last night, no issues. Ok so kids ues kids around the door smoking, smell of booze on more then a few, and swearing and fooling around on ice and skates on the road. 3. Need positive eforcement kick youth out and make it so a PARENT HAS TO WATCH THIER OWN KIDS UNDER 18. The reason so many is because parents go out and let the rink babysit their children. 4 responsible supervision.

Gramma...you need to get your facts straight! I heard the board cut her pay significantly to drive her out also any money she took in was not pocketed...and where do you think the snacks came from? She would make trips on her own time to pick them up so they would be avaliable! And really? how can she maintain sidewalks etc and supervise the rink at the same time like she is supposed to? I as well as many others want Janet BACK!!!

This isn't just about her. Its about the youth that are ruining the rink. Maybe there should be a charge or surprise inspections by plain clothed k9 and pd. Use academy kids that still look like the youth and causing issues

it is impossible to require parental supervision without more people to enforce that rule. the rink in lowville isnt set up for good supervision - maybe we need a new rink

Glad to see that this has been brought to the for front, wait no I'm not because the police department has done anything needed to clean it up, glad we payed for a dog they don't use. Would be easy to sneak the dog in a minivan and jst jump out and walk through the crowd. Glad the kick the trouble out. O wait they haven't. Guess I'm just glad someone had guts to say something about it. Ope something is done before someone gets hurt and sues all involved, hockey association, village, county, and fair grounds.

FYI, K9 has been there, and will be back. Apparently you weren't there at the time. Maybe you don't know it all? Just sayin'.

The grandstands are not part of the rink and are public property - no one at the rink or running the rink has any say as to what happens at or under the grandstands and that included Janet. If you'd like to put in the 1000 plus hours it takes to do what needs to be done then please come to a board meeting and take my position. Feel free to post your name and I will contact you with a day and time that you can come clean a bathroom or haul plexiglass.
Good points, Tanya! Everyone likes to complain, but when it comes to helping out, they all get scarce. Keep up the great work!:)
