Too bad....that is a great number of employees that will be affected. Hopefully there will be another company that will buy the store here in Lowville....we need to have more than one store in this county to buy groceries. Walmart seems to be carrying less and less varieties of dry goods and their produce and meat is still sub-standard.

Maybe a new chain with some new additions will bring shoppers who travel to Jefferson and Oneida counties to grocery shop back to shopping in Lewis County...I think that we lose enough sales tax revenue here already. Maybe this will spur a "BUY LOCALLY" trend and we can fill the county's coffers with sales tax instead of filling them elsewhere!

I hope they don't close. Stupid Wal-mart, they have created many businesses in the area to close: IGA, the dollar store, the movie rental place, etc.

St.Lawrence Department of Economic Development is offering services to P&C Employees. Lewis County is not offering any services. WHY? Aren't we important?

CANTON — St. Lawrence County's Office of Economic Development will provide outreach services to P&C Markets employees slated to lose their jobs in February.

I'd like to see a store called "Made In America". That would be the only place I would shop at. A place where you know your hard earned bucks are contributing to American jobs and Americas economy and not to the exploitation of Chinese kids. That is why places like walmart are so cheap.

I just called Employment and Job Placement Services. They have not been officially notified of the closing. Until someone tells them they cannot act on providing services.

I also e-mailed David Pendergast, County Manager about services and he never got back to me. He must be unware of the P&C closing.

The P&C closing must only be up in St. Lawrence County and the Lowville store is not affected.

Please stop spreading rumors. My wife works there and we need her income. It appears the county would know first and no one is aware of any P&C closing in Lewis County.

i spoke to a long time employee last week and she told me that they are going bunkrupt just one of the reasons they will not cash checks anymore, so they very well may be closing up the other rumor is that price chopper is going in there

As per P&C - not just Lowville, but everywhere, they will be closing if no one buys them by Feb 16 or something to that affect.

Have great fresh meat at local family stores, Nolt's, Eddie's Meat market, Miller's store. Who's to say another chain won't buy the plaza and build a new store. Since you most likely live closer to other stores, you shouldn't worry. We didn't choose for P&C to go bankrupt three times in the last 10 years. Maybe it was poor management. I don't think any of us will go without fresh meat, maybe have to go to watertown or somewhere else once a week like we did before Walmart came into our town.
