How come farmers don't have barn dances anymore?
I remember going to a few when i was younger. I thought they were fun.

I remember barn dances too. I always loved them. Great way to raise money to help pay off the project, and everyone had a good time. There was more sense of community back then. Things are different now; probably insurance reasons. Too many complications. Somebody falls down and gets hurt, etc.....Remember the time when people weren't so quick to sue?

Sounds like a great Idea. Maybe could even get a new local band to play so everyone in the area can get a chance to go out and hear them. I'm sure you could raise enough money to pay the band and still make some good money. Maybe NH will help, she does fund raising for the shelter. Want to get started. It would be alot of fun. I know the fire hall in Glenfield does dances and they charge 5.00 per person. You could even have raffles.

There used to be a barn/bar up passed Longways on rt 3 called McFarland's. Boy was that one of the nicest places to go when we were younger. Lots of square dancing, polka's, good country music. Then we would all go to Longways for breakfast at three am.. That was 30 some years ago when you could stay out all night and still get up for work...lol..

A barn dance was held after building a barn to help raise the money to cover the expense of building it. There was an admission to attend. And there was food and refreshments and music. What wonderful days they were. Carefree and fun.

yep those were the good old daze it's to bad that somethings just fad away . It's so sad that our kids didn't get to live simpler times. Back when moonshine was the biggest threat , a roll in the hay and pickin wildflowers was fun . Back when crack was in your windshield, and Mary Jane was your kissing cousin .

when you could get a cheap drunk on strawberry hill and tango, you weren't old enough to buy it at 18 but usually one of your friends in high school was old enough. enjoyed the simple life much more.
