well, aren't you the lucky community. my point would be that there are too many fish in the sea to kill yourself over one certain fish.....he should have went the bar and had a couple of drinks instead.

I guess it's time to start locking up the knives, especially in small rural towns.

gosh, if he knew he was going to kill himself he could have been proper and went down to the grand river instead of doing away with himself in front of little children! Such a sad story.

Anybody who knew Jeff Childs, would tell you he had a good heart and this was not who he was. He loved his family and friends. The fact that he had a drunk driving convition years ago has nothing to with anything. He was a person who would do anything for the people he cared about.

We do not know what happened here...we also do not know ANYTHING about either of these people and what happened. Yes, it was most definitely wrong that he did this in front of children, but obviously he snapped and something happened inside his head. I guess no one will ever know what he was thinking except him and his estranged girlfriend...it's a very sad story for everyone involved.

Did you know him? I'm not saying he was innocent or that he wasn't wrong. He had problems, but something drove him over the edge. It's sad it ended this way.

When something like this happens in a small town where everybody knows everybody or somebody that knows the family. There is already enough hurt and pain for the family is it really necessary for the media to bring up that he had a drunk driving charge 14 years ago. It has nothing to do with the facts of the case. Why don't the media keep to the present and forget the pass because I am sure every body has something they did years ago they are not proud of...

Criminal history? The guy got a DUI over a decade ago. Shame on the reporter for sensationalizing this story.

I knew Jeff years ago and really don't understand what happened. I am not sure I knew the girl because no name has been released. It is hard to imagine what happened to bring Jeff to this. It is like the comment stated above Jeff was a person with a giant heart. I guess love and passion can cause a person to snap.

I hope the girl fully recovers and the children are given the help they will need to get passed this.

Look at the bright side. If he had lived, we would have to pay for a trial and then the cost of housing this psycho looney tune for the next 3-10 years.
