Tyngsboro landmark reduced to rubble

Full story: Lowell Sun 50
The "eyesore" is no more. About 50 spectators gathered in a steady drizzle yesterday morning to watch the town-ordered demolition of the former Shur-Fine Market at Kendall and Middlesex roads, diagonally across the intersection from the Tyngsboro Bridge. Full Story

I recall going into Shur Fine as a Kid 35 years ago and wanting a specific candy bar. I didn't see the bar on the rack so I sort of mulled around the candy area. I was hesitant to ask anyone for help as usually the result was a typical brush off. A woman read me and while smiling she told me I should ask the owner and she added "Don't worry, he don't bite".
The owner caught the conversation and from two aisles away, he asked me "What do you want?". My jaw dropped as I realized his tone was sincere. He had someone check out back and the employee did find the item I wanted. The owner apologized and told me they'd been very busy though he would try to get things out quicker in the future. I was in AWE and a bit speechless. As I was leaving the first woman who initiated the help said "We do things differently" and over the course now of many years, I do realize the service was not only an exception shared by a few other small retailers, it's a nice minute in time I can always pull from.

Is it true that in place of the old "shur fine" a statute of Rich Lemoine will be erected?

A very nice story. The moral still applies today.

Shur Fine isn't the only thing being reduced to rubble under Selectmen Rich Lemoine's watch.

I don't really recall Tyngsboro having that much of a center. That building certainly didn't go well with the old church and barn, though.

Shouldn't it read Tyngsboro Eyesore reduced to Rubble?

They should've continued with the barn & church while they were at it.

State Rep. Colleen Garry views the demolition of Shur-Fine as a key step "to bring Tyngsboro to the forefront in being recognized as having one of the most beautiful town centers in the entire state."

IS she serious or seriously delusional???

You know statements like that make me want to give up on society. Or at least just Massachusetts.

I really like Tyngsborough, but to say the town center will be one of the nicest in Mass is silly. The Library, town hall,is miles away, it is not walk friendly, and it is right on 3A near an industrial railline. She really needs to get out a little more.

Another eyesore is across the bridge... the general store and graffiti is just a lovely sight. I know it's coming down eventually but as I sat in traffic waiting to go over the bridge (a whole other comment), it struck me just how gross it makes the town look.

I have decided that in place of the old Shur Fine building the town will allow Don Dirocco to construct a brand new Mathew's Adult Entertainment Night Club to generate business revenue for the town and to be the hallmark of our new town center!! What do you think guys??
