What he did was "not related to his position on the School Committee." Wake up McNamara. How is a thief (if convicted) a role model for the children of Dracut. It could not be more related to his School Committee position. Clearly he is innocent until proven guilty, but if he did do it, and he knows if he did or not, he should have some class and step down now. Just another entitled jerk from a political hack family.

i wish the lowell sun would get the story straight. ronnie never used the gas for his boat and never used his boat on a sick day, check the records the boat has never even been but in the water, yes what he did was stupid. but just wait till the WHOLE truth comes out before you talk about stepping down from the school comitte.

That would be a good start. New blood instead of families milking the system.

"Having said that, should he step down from the board? That has to be something he decides for himself."

Ahh no, he has already shown to use poor judgment, why would you let him use his judgment again? Grow a sack and give your opinion, he should go.

Why pay someone to not work while you investigate what you already know? They KNOW he sent pics, they KNOW he was not sick that day and they KNOW he stole the gas. End of story get that bum out of that job and let some out of work, honest civilian in there. Nepotism running rampant is what I see.

What's new.

His father, who loved sticking it to people when he was in power, was a free loader for years and finally the voters got rid of him (thanks God).

Now Lynch got the kid with his hand in the till which should not surprise anyone as the old saying goes "like father like son".

Congrats to Manager Lynch for cleaning the bums out.

I was going to vote for Dr. McNamara, but now I can't. Not related -- let's forget the theft part for just a minute --- the school committee needs to set an example. He called in sick and then flaunted that he was out on his boat. How can he ask teachers and administrators to enforce an attendance policy?? Next lets get to the fact that he is accused of a crime?????? What he did was "not related to his actions on the school comittee"-- wow are you out of touch! How about things like role model, character, integrity??

If Supt. of Water Dan Lahiff took gas for a generator at his home, why is that any different from taking gas for a boat, car, or anything else? If it is a penny or a thousand it is still stealing. Again there are two sets of rules one for the workers and one for management. Lynch did a good job but finish the job Mr.Lynch.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the city and the Lowell police. WCAP along with the Lowell Sun were tipped off from an insider or what they like to call a “source”. Both media outlets then come out with a “story”, as of now this is all it is a story or hearsay from a “source”.
The only comments from the Managers office or the Police are that this is still an ongoing investigation. The WCAP and the Lowell Sun should be ashamed for not waiting to report this story until all the facts and all people involved have been investigated. If these 2 employees are charged with what they are rumored to be involved in, then go write your report. But with both media outlets going with a “leak” or “tip off” from a source without facts, may have ruined further investigations on other employees involved.

I still say I should have gotten a state or federal job years ago! In my job they can escort me to the door because they feel like it. If you have one of those (suck the system dry government) jobs you stay on the payroll while they investigate what has already been caught on film. And how can you afford a house & boat making 30k a year even without the cost of gas? I'm not doing something right.

Give him a drug test, if he's not on drugs then the only other explanation is "He's French" end of story.

"Dracut School Committee member Ron Mercier, have been placed on paid administrative leave pending a criminal investigation into allegations"

"Mercier, who has served on the School Committee for seven years, allegedly admitted to having filled up his car and boat with city-owned fuel, then texted photos of himself on the boat to co-workers on a day when he was scheduled to be on the job but called in sick"

I did it, Mercier says. Why the paid leave?
